Today we’d like to introduce you to Estefania Alexandra Hernandez.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Estefania Alexandra. So, let’s start at the beginning, and we can move on from there.
Since I was a child, I want to demonstrate how amazing my country and my people are. I come from Venezuela, and I arrived at The United States three years ago. I studied hard to get my bachelor degree in Social Communication – Audiovisual, and I made it. As a child, I dreamed of earning an Oscar or participating as a press in the Grammys. I watched with admiration all the ceremonies imagining what it would feel like to be there.
As a producer in Venezuela, I had several events that involved music and entertainment; some were “Por El Medio de La Calle,” “La Fete de La Musique,” “Feria de Vinos, Quesos y Chocolates.” In addition, I worked as a publicist for Crocs Venezuela and as a music teacher. I worked very hard to save the full money and come to the United States to do my Master Degree in Film Production.
I’m a musician, I’ve played flauta since I was little and I’ve always tried to combine my passion for film with my love for music. Currently studying Music Business – Creative Performance; where I hope to perfect my writing skills. My ultimate goal is to be the producer and the music composer of my film projects.
In my country, I left everything: my family, my work, my home. I decided to come to The United States to work and achieve everything I wanted since I was little because I was sure that in Venezuela I would not succeed. I completed my Master’s Degree at Full Sail University, graduating with honors, in Film Production. It is where I met those who are now my friends and my coworkers: Priscilla and Linda Rojas, who had a company that gave me the opportunity to work, named Alpha Entertainment Services.
Starting work at Alpha Entertainment Services has opened the doors to many things that I never thought I would achieve. I managed to produce a television show called “La Hora Del Brunch.” We had a tourism and adventure program throughout the state of Florida called “Destino en la Mira.” We have been able to attend as a press to great events such as The Latin Grammy, Premios Tu Mundo, Cannes Film Festival, Billboards Awards, among others.
Last year we went to France as a press to work at The Cannes Festival. It really was a dream come true. From this, we had in our TV Show, La Hora Del Brunch, a special that was awarded at the Telly Awards 2018 in a category of “Best Tv Segment/Program – La Hora Brunch Special of Cannes Film festival.” I never felt more proud of what I had achieved as at that moment.
I have participated in several shorts films that have been awarded international and national awards. The short film Agonia has been one of the productions that I have enjoyed the most. This production has received the awards in Chile at the South Film and Arts Academy Festival as Best Makeup, Best Lighting, Best Drama, Best Cinematography, Third Audience Award, Production Design and Supporting Actor. Also in New York at the Chain NYC Film Festival as Best International Short Film. In Paris at the Gold Movie Awards, we won the Best Short and Best Actress category.
Hard and constant work has always been rewarded. Since 2016 I was selected by the Miami Fear Fest, film festival team as a producer. We have made three editions where more than eight countries have participated like Germany, Japan, Belgium, Mexico, Venezuela. The United States, etc. This festival in Miami, about fiction, terror, and suspense is one of the professional achievements that has given me great satisfaction. As a jury and part of the production team, I had the opportunity to share and meet incredible people from the world of cinema; but above all, we give recognition to those who are starting in this difficult industry.
I think the most beautiful thing about my job is to meet wonderful people who have left me with great lessons. Priscilla and Linda became not only my coworkers but part of my family here in the United States. I have concentrated on giving the best of myself in every project in which I have had the opportunity to work and be a part. I firmly believe that work is what offers us the best rewards.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Nothing has been easy. The biggest challenge was to leave the comfort of my country and face a new place. Leaving everything and starting from scratch is often frustrating. However, my father has always taught me to look forward. One of the situations that were more complicated was the departure for France for the Cannes festival.
I remember that nobody believed in us as projects for being such young women. They did not believe in our ability to get a program out. Many of the sponsors gave us back, and with great effort, we managed to raise the money to go to the festival. Without sleep, without the comforts of having the best room, or the best meals; we manage to comply with our guidelines with full responsibility and punctuality.
When we arrived in Miami, we had to edit the program and create the special for the channel. When we were able to see that all the effort had been worth it and we had a perfect program to the air we felt incredible. Our surprise was greater when we received the Telly Award a year later. And these situations have been repeated in all the projects in which I have participated.
However, satisfaction is double when we finish everything correctly, and people come to congratulate us for our great work. All the hours without sleep, all the hours doing scripts and calling to find the sponsors, etc.; They are worth it if, in the end, our work is perfect.
We’d love to hear more about what you do.
I work in the cinema and entertainment area. I not only produce movies but also produce events, press conferences and all the promotion that is necessary. The family of Alpha Entertainment Services has given me a family.
The human quality and respect I believe that are the pillars of a good working relationship. When I work in a production we offer the best of ourselves; and although many unforeseen events occur, my work team is able to solve whatever comes up.
As a producer, I am aware that I am one of those in charge of production. I learned in my master that the producers are the captains of the ship and if something goes wrong, I have to take responsibility.
Of my organization and my work depends on all the production. Everything must be on time, the food, the talent, those who will work, the script, the recording permits, the schedules, etc. If something fails, in my duty to look for solutions. Responsibility is my north.
We differ from the others because we have in our company all the necessary equipment to carry out a production. We have cameras, lights, personnel and if we need more, we have the contacts to find what is needed. But above all, we have the desire to work and move forward.
The biggest pride is my work team: Andrew Wallace (cameraman), Linda and Priscilla (Executive producer and director); and all those who are part or work with us are simply unique.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Responsibility. Without responsibility, there is absolutely nothing. If there is responsibility, the commitment to do things right is created. In a production, everyone must do their job correctly to achieve the ultimate goal, the movie, a short film, the TV show, or any event.
The desire to work, not to sit at home waiting for success to come alone. There is work, but you have to look for it. Nothing comes without effort, nothing is free.
The constancy, that which teaches us that although we fall we must get up and continue. Life is made of problems because otherwise, it would not be life. It is in us to get the courage and have the constancy of never giving up.
And finally, the desire to dream. My father used to tell me every day before going to bed: “Daughter never stops dreaming, because the day you stop you will have failed, or you will no longer be in this world.” I think those words stayed with me. There are not impossible if we have the desire.
