Today we’d like to introduce you to Raquel Shields.
Raquel, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started “Relate with Raquel” in November 2017 as a sneak peek into my life. I’m a wife and mama to three active boys, I work full time and seem to always be on the go, which I’m sure most of us can relate to, right? People, especially other moms were often asking me questions like “How do you have time to cook?”, “How do you find time to workout?” or even “Where do you get all your energy from?” So I decided to show them how I do it even with a full schedule. Quick and healthy meals and strong, short workouts that can get done anywhere and anytime are my things. That combo right there is life changing, which I hope to encourage all to take part in!
Has it been a smooth road? It’s been a learning process for sure! I didn’t have social media until just over a year ago! I felt like the only person on the planet that didn’t have Facebook or Instagram! I literally learned how to use it at 32 years old. So, trying to figure out the tagging, hashtags, the linking of profiles, etc. was a little overwhelming. I also manage the blog on my own, which can be intimidating. I’m definitely still learning the ropes and enjoying the journey at the same time.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with you – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
I am proud of getting out of my own way and doing what makes me happy. I love my day job in the legal field, but I really needed a creative outlet. Having a passion for something makes you feel alive. I have such a passion for creating, which is why I started Relate with Raquel in the first place. It’s a spot in my life where I can be creative. I think what sets me apart is that I have an insane amount of energy! I love being busy and I especially love entertaining. What’s better than cooking, making cocktails, creating a beautiful space and making memories, especially with family and friends?
I also have the ability to come up with some super quick and healthy meals, which I learned over the past year is hard for some people to do. I’m here to help any way I can. It’s hard out there!
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I was born and raised in South Florida. I’m here in this heat for a reason. I love it! Give me the sun and a cocktail and you’ve got yourself one happy girl! There’s also so much opportunity here. Everyone seems to be working towards something and that keeps me motivated! My least favorite thing about our city is probably the traffic. For crying out loud it can take 20 minutes to go one mile, but I can definitely see why people want to be here.
