Today we’d like to introduce you to Beatrice Galiot.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
At the age of eight years old, my grandmother taught me how to braid. She used to braid me and my sister’s hair until one day, she decided to teach me; when I caught on she would then braid my hair and I became responsible for doing my sister’s hair.
I actually tried to pull away from this gift but like a magnet, it pulled me right in. I attempted going to Cosmetology school as a senior in high school and didn’t complete it. I was not prepared at all, I thought I would be doing mannequin heads all day, and all of the assignments were practical. Who knew it came with books, lol? I went away for college and wasn’t as focused, and eventually found myself on probation. There was a strong magnetic force that turned my attention back to Cosmetology, because of my situation I gave in and feeling like maybe this is where I truly belong. My second attempt, I made it my business to excel and complete the Cosmetology course, and to become licensed in the state of Florida. I became a licensed Cosmetologist in 2008, afterwards, I returned and completed my college courses because it annoys the heck out of me to leave something incomplete, I have a Bachelors in Accounting.
When it comes down to performance and creativity, I believe in myself and I don’t allow someone opinions to change how I feel about the direction of my creativity. There’s always room for improvement and challenges, always something new to learn. I’m definitely not saying to be closed minded because people help people to grow, and what they’re saying matters to an extent; eat the meat, toss the bones. Whatever salon I worked at, I kept my eyes open to what is acceptable and what isn’t; for example, if someone was great at cutting then I would make them my standard until I could get my cuts to look as presentable. In doing that, it gave me a sense of direction, and that is how I discovered I my niche and became to define my own standards. There is no way to pursue perfection without practice.
I am a licensed Cosmetologist licensed in the State of Florida and Illinois.
Has it been a smooth road?
It hasn’t been a smooth road, I have done booth renting all my life and later respected the pros on what it is to be a commission hair stylist. Booth Rent causes you to be responsible for way too many things too soon, it doesn’t mean you can’t master it one day, but guidance is a very important role.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Styles by Beatrice – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
I am an Independent Contractor that goes by the name of Styles by Beatrice. I have a love/hate feeling for word specialty because I love everything hair but if I had to it would be an Extension Specialist. I love extensions and aim to style and cut it as if it were yours. It should look like a style without a curl in sight.
I strive to be professional and friendly at all times, I educate my clients in the chair, I appreciate them and want them to always remember that. What I would like to set me apart is that people would know my hair signature when they see it.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
