Art & Life with Carolina Flores

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carolina Flores.

Carolina, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
During the last semester of my Business Administration studies, I suddenly realized that something was missing. I have always been grateful for all of the opportunities life had given me but there came a point I desired to explore my creative side. I am very fortunate to be surrounded by people who inspire and support me. With their encouragement, I decided to pursue a minor in the arts. Many people tell stories about falling in love at first sight, that’s the same way I remember falling in love with Photography. Just like any relationship, it takes a lot of sacrifice, love, and dedication for it to flourish. Every time I grab my camera and look at the beautiful surroundings around me, it’s just as exhilarating as the first day, and it never feels like a job. Nature’s splendor never fails to evoke a feeling of wonder in me. I also seek to relive that same emotion when capturing the essence of a person or finding beauty in things most would consider mundane or ordinary, these are the things life gives us to appreciate.

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
My chosen path in the arts is photography. I chose to do photography because I feel that this is the best way I am able to share my love of the aesthetic nature offers us. Photography is my desired outlet to be able to replicate the colors and shades of the world around us. My desire is that people are not only able to appreciate the subjects in my photographs, but can also value the artistry I desire to emote in photographs. I aim for my photos to have the same qualities a painting has; where you want to always find something new that obligates the viewer to revisit it reminding them of a special time and place.

What responsibility, if any, do you think artists have to use their art to help alleviate problems faced by others? Has your art been affected by issues you’ve concerned about?
I believe things are pretty different, but the goals of artist have remained the same. Artists have always tried to find a balance between pleasing themselves and creating something that also appeals to the masses. I try not to let outside factors affect the way I create my art, but there are times where things outside of your control occur, and one has to improvise (the true mark of an artist). One thing I can definitely say is that things are a bit easier as far as getting your work out to more people. Artists would struggle to have a gallery showcase their work in order to have more people exposed to it, nowadays there are so many outlets that you don’t even have to leave your home to accomplish that. You can post your work on a number of platforms and exhibit your work anywhere in the world.

What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
I am currently working on creating new content and exploring new platforms to expose my work to a wider community outside of my client base. For the time being, I would like to invite everyone to visit my website. There you view my gallery, contact me and find links to the other media platforms I am currently on, like Instagram and Facebook @lightnhue, there I can update everyone with any new information.
