Meet Lazaro Rodriguez of M.E.G. Media in Lincoln Road

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lazaro Rodriguez.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Born & raised in Miami Beach, FL. I have been playing in bands since the age of 14. By the age of 18, I was rubbing shoulders with rock stars as a studio-rat washing courtyard, cars and boats for Rock & Roll Hall Of Famer Desmond Child at the “Gentlemens Club” studio. At any given moment I’d see artists such as Steven Tyler, Jon Bon Jovi, Ricky Martin & so on. By the age of 21, I was working alongside my songwriting partner Samantha Gibb & her brother Adam Gibb for an album being produced by their father, Maurice Gibb, who was a 1/3rd member of the legendary music group The “Bee Gees.” In the midst of finishing the album, Maurice passed away in an unfortunate unprecedented event. In his honor, we started the record label M.E.G. Productions. M.E.G. being an acronym for her father’s initials-Maurice Ernest Gibb. We started as a label releasing our songs which have since led to signing and producing other artists. M.E.G. has evolved into a new media company, M.E.G. Media, where we provide quality, creative content for our clients for their social media presence. With a small team of camera operators, editors, & music producers, we have found our home in this new age of brand marketing where we believe it doesn’t get more niche than the individual and therefore us. M.E.G. Media provides the individual with creative ways involving culture, fashion & music to promote their brand which ultimately boils down to them.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The change in the music industry has been the most challenging part of the journey. No one is really buying physical copies of CDs anymore. Now people mostly stream music instead of purchasing downloads. But technology has gotten better and more affordable. I just finished a drone shoot for a music video which only about a decade ago would have cost way over $50,000. However, we just did it for under $900. I know people who are recording all of their content on their smartphones. We stayed afloat throughout the change and always had our vision one step ahead of what was happening, trying out all the new platforms popping up such as Youtube, Facebook, Ustream, Periscope, etc.

M.E.G. Media Inc. – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
M.E.G. Media focuses on communication, engagement, community, and brand. For our client’s brand awareness we create music videos, vlogs, podcasts, instrumental songs and songs with lyrics. We remind our clients that they are at the very foundation of their brand and that we’re living in one of the greatest era’s to be alive. The way we communicate, engage and build community today is so innovative and ever-evolving. As the entire human race is learning to adapt to these changes, we feel that we are at the forefront of understanding these major shifts.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
At the risk of sounding romantic or cliche, I think happiness will define my idea of success. Criteria, to do something for a living I’m extremely passionate about. Days when I get frustrated over a song that just isn’t coming out right or days when I can’t control, say the weather, when I need to do a photoshoot or a music video or even days when my flight gets canceled and I won’t be able to make a meeting somewhere overseas, are some examples of the markers I’ll be looking out for which will indicate I’m doing just fine.
