Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicolle Lopez.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Most know me as Nikki Major. My first passion, dance, is something that is constant in my life. As a Master Vixen Workout Instructor, I have the opportunity to teach and perform with others through dance fitness – this is year five of my fitness journey. My second passion is story-telling, and I get to make a living out of it working in social media content creation.
In 2017, I was living in Miami doing my usual juggle between working an office job by day and instructing Vixen Workout classes by night when Camila Ramon, Editor in Chief of the lifestyle blog Eat, Breathe, Sweat, reached out and asked if I’d like to collaborate on her new blog.
I accepted her offer because I really wanted to speak about the growing dance fitness industry, but more so because I needed to validate my obsession with restaurants.
Soon after accepting her offer, my life went into a whirlwind and transplanted to Washington DC. I’m grateful to say that I did not have to sacrifice any of my passions and am growing my footprint in this new city, documenting it all on the EBS blog.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
We’ve had some growing pains. When I first joined Camila, it was just the two of us. We’re the type of people to take on hundreds of projects at a time, so it was tough to grow a brand on our own. Slowly we found more like-minded, ambitious, well-written women that we all grew up with and had flourished within their own industries. Since growing the editorial team, our content has boomed, and we cover a range of topics beyond fitness and food – fashion, beauty, mental health, and motherhood. The only challenge now is getting us all on a conference call between four cities and crazy schedules.
Please tell us about Eat, Breathe, and Sweat.
Eat, Breathe, Sweat is a blog that advocates for healthier lifestyles from the perspectives of physical and mental health. The blog is run by a supergroup of five Miami natives that now live in some of the biggest cities in the U.S., including LA, NYC, and DC. With an all Hispanic female editorial team, we each bring our own skillset to discuss different topics.
I particularly focus on lifestyle, mostly food, dance, and beauty – in that order. The first two make me the happiest, and the latter is something I’m new to. When I talk about beauty, you’re getting a review from someone that is new to the product game, so it’s a minimalist perspective trying to make sense of the behemoth of the beauty industry.
What sets us apart and makes me so proud to talk about the blog is our team. We are comprised of some of the coolest people I know. We have:
– LA Editor Camila Ramon: Personal Trainer and FlyWheel Instructor
– Miami Editor Yasamin Nosrati-shamloo: Mental Health Counselor
– NYC Editor Amanda Aracena: CBS This Morning Associate Producer
– Miami Editor: Andrea Salini: Fitness Enthusiast, Dancer, Aerialist, and a Mother
How can you not get amped after reading that list? We each approach our topics differently and look at them through the lens of our own experience. We encourage our readers to explore our blog by topic or by author to get the full EBS eclectic feel.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Personally, I wish I could travel back in time and tell myself to believe in my writing. Working in marketing, I’ve always written for others – humans and brands – but never about myself. I was rather sheepish when it came to my first posts, and it was agony writing them as I was so harsh on myself. Now it’s a breeze to write for the blog…it only took half a year to get there.
