So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I founded Modloft in 2005 with a vision of designing awe-inspiring furniture for people with discerning sophistication. There was one vital requirement. It needed to be affordable. Companies offered either high-end design with price tags to match or inexpensive and unimpressive imitations. I wanted to change that and provide a much-needed alternative to a design-starved market – on a budget.
So we started with an innovative production process. Each step, from conception to installation, is executed in-house. We control everything. No outsourcing. No cutting corners. Every product is built from scratch. Every couch, table, and chair is a one-of-a-kind design. No detail is spared our attention. It’s our differentiation.
Today, Modloft is sold in over 1000 retail and online locations nationwide. Brand showrooms have popped up in Miami and Los Angeles, with more metro markets to follow. We believe the future of furniture retailing will follow the trail we blazed over a decade ago and we are at the forefront of that retail shift.
Has it been a smooth road?
Creating a furniture brand online presented many challenges. Will people buy a chair without sitting in it first? Or a sofa without feeling the material? Assuming we clear that hurdle, how do you ship fragile furniture across the country? In the early years, those were the underlying questions. Over time, we developed answers to those and other inherent challenges of online furniture.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Miami has a beat on modern design. Its minimalist architecture, specifically new homes, condominiums, and office buildings align with the city’s “work hard, play hard” attitude. I admire the innovators involved in the design “makeover” of a city as colorful as Miami.
Like least about our city? It has certainly improved, but our tech scene needs more entrepreneurs to plant roots here rather than jump to other more established cities. I take great pride in saying Modloft was made in Miami.
