Meet Silvia Grosso of Milan Pole Dance Studio in Wynwood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Silvia Grosso.

Silvia, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
The year was 2008. Krystel Arbia, a Milan resident, had just delivered her third son. Desperate to get back in shape, she tried Pilates and yoga, in addition to running and Thai boxing. Nothing worked completely though; til she read in a magazine about pole dancing as a fitness routine. She tried and loved it! What made it special was the fact that she was exercising, enjoying herself and having fun and feeling sexy at the same time. That is how Milan Pole Dance Studio started, building a community of empowered women getting fit and having fun in a similar fashion.

Today, the almost seven-year-old Milan Pole Dance Studio (MPDS), has established its presence across the world, including Montreal, Dubai, Singapore and the last studio in Miami, where I moved 2 years ago. Miami was the perfect city for welcoming a pole dance and fitness studio, for this reason I opened our 5th MPDS location about 1 year and a half ago.

What makes pole dance fitness stand out from the other fitness disciplines, is the great workout that defines the body muscles and the surge of confidence that comes from it.

With a fitter body and a few pole routine skills, women feel more beautiful and more confident. A few shy girls underwent a body and personality change within a few months of joining our classes! Pole dance fitness is also ideal for posture correction, for it helps one get rid of the slouch and become more agile. Unlike in the gym where you lift some kilos, here you lift your whole body. This makes it more effective!

Last, notwithstanding the cultural differences across countries, pole dance creates a rare bonding between people and an amazing women community worldwide, with no limitation of age or body shape!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It hasn’t been a smooth road! Miami offers a variety of very exciting workouts, especially outdoor, on the beach or in some of Miami’s beautiful parks!

But creating a gorgeous studio in the heart of Wynwood (the Miami Art District) we have a number and variety of pole fitness, dance, aerial and fitness classes. We’ve built an incredible community of empowered women with the common interest of staying in shape and feeling beautiful and strong at the same time.

Our state of the art studio includes 4 lyra hoops and 14 Lupit poles, along with an edgy artistic theme which fits the district.

What were you like growing up?
I’ve always loved dance as a child. I started attending dance classes at the age of 6 and continued until I was 19 years old. When I started the university and I started to work later on, there was always less and less time for dance practice. Until I discovered pole dance and met Krystel and Milan Pole Dance Studio. I was working in the yachting business at the time and traveling very often in Europe and abroad, but I would run to a pole fitness class every time I could to exercise and meet my friends at the studio. This is the reason why I’ve become so fond about pole dancing and decided to open Milan Pole Dance Studio in Miami, when I moved to the US 2 years ago.
