Meet Tova Teitelbaum of Tova Photography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tova Teitelbaum.

Tova, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I always had an interest in photography but never thought of it seriously as a career.

After taking a photography course in college, the initial interest I had sparked a love of the medium that led me to graduate four years later with a Bachelor’s of Fine Art in Photography.

Enthralled with the opportunity to make a living from my passion, I created my website in 2007 and my business was born. Now, nearly ten years later, I’ve photographed hundreds of families and couples in this beautiful city I get to call home.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Figuring out my niche in the photography world wasn’t clear at first. But after taking on all kinds of jobs and realizing what I truly enjoyed it led me to find my specialty in the commercial photography field.

Please tell us about Tova Photography.
I specialize in children, families, couples & engagement photography. My goal is to create beautiful images of people that show the relationships they share with their loved ones. One of the things I’m most proud of and is really satisfying about the job is that I’ve created memories for people that are meaningful to them.

I am very communicative with clients before and after the session. Being from Miami, I inform people about the best locations as well as the best time for lighting.

When it comes to photographing couples, I give a lot of direction on posing – even candid photos are often a result of a “posed” image – otherwise, people are left wondering what to do, where to stand, etc.

When you provide direction for them, they feel confident that you know what you’re doing.

When it comes to photographing children, it’s a different type of session. The beauty of photographing kids is their honesty, vulnerability and spontaneity. You never know what you’re going to get. I encourage a lot of interaction with parents and I bring along a few small props to help get their attention when I want them looking at the camera. I’m super patient with kids, so anything that might happen doesn’t fluster me. I want the entire photographic experience to be a fun, easy and memorable one!

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Family road trips each summer through the US and Canada.
