Art & Life with Dianna Grace

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dianna Grace.

Dianna, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
Art was always my favorite subject in school and as I grew older I realized it was a passion more than a hobby, I decided to pursue my BFA at New World School of the Arts and originally started my degree as a painter, but working with the 3D form was a game changer for me. I changed my major to sculpture and I never looked back.

I enjoyed all forms of sculpture work and experimented with glass, ceramics, and woodwork. Soon after I started manipulating industrial materials to take on new forms. I enjoy working will all types of different mediums and want to broaden my horizons. I am currently pursuing my MFA at Florida International University and I’m excited for future student shows.

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
My work is mainly process-based; “It’s the journey, not the destination”. It’s all about the materials and how they can change, move, and grow. I normally gravitate towards industrial materials, but prefer to work with any and all mediums. I manipulate these materials to create a juxtaposition between hard and soft forms. The result produces gentle and intricate moments between both elements. I hope to give the viewer a new experience with materials they are familiar with and give them a chance to see them in a new light.

How do you think about success, as an artist, and what do quality do you feel is most helpful?
Success comes with hard work. You must constantly produce and work on your craft if you’re going to get anywhere. You have to surround yourself with like-minded artists and focus your priorities on growing as an artist. You can’t fail if you keep trying.
