Thanks for sharing your story with us Donniqua. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
18 years old, I went off to College for nursing. I came back home when I was 19 & did some more college. After another stressful semester, I had to stop lying to myself about what I wanted… I dropped out a day before my anatomy exam & became so depressed because I didn’t know what I was going to do with my life. I use to get on YouTube to learn how to do makeup but it never helped. So, I started doing makeup at home because I didn’t even have a way around. I use to catch the bus just to go to practice with my friends. Fast forward to today, here I am 21, making more than I ever imagined💪🏾. By the grace of Gods spirit, He leads me into a career that will always be worth more than anything my parents or I could imagine. My talent, my gift, has taken me so far. Though I have accomplished so much within that time frame, from inspiring my supporters on the daily, working with some of the top tv networks & celebs. I’m now teaching my skill to others all over the world & plan to take my art to Los Angeles.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Some of the struggles were not being treated or respected for my craft by people that were higher up than me & not knowing whether or not to take or leave the opportunity. What I’ve learned & will pass down to anyone else is to always know your worth and then add tax. Never make anyone make you feel any less than you are, regardless of how big, rich or famous they are!

So much of the media coverage is focused on the challenges facing women today, but what about the opportunities? Do you feel there are any opportunities that women are particularly well positioned for?
As a pro make up artist, the only challenges we may face is people not seeing what we are really worth. But that starts with YOU first. You have set boundaries so no one will get over on you.
