Today we’d like to introduce you to The CKreatives INC.
The CKreatives, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
The CKreatives INC is a network of creative individuals, ideas and companies. It was created out of the desire to highlight talents within our network who we’ve connected with to produce dope content: photo shoots, videos, choreography, music, fashion, merchandising and whatever crosses our path,
We worked extensively on projects for Singer/Songwriter, Camille Kaye for years, until other brands, artists, dancers, models, photographers, directors and more began contacting us to do similar work with them.
Taking a leap of faith in 2015, we’re grateful and excited to have been a part of so much awesomeness within our creative community so far until now. Our current mission is to push even harder into the possibilities of our future.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
In a nutshell, The CKreatives INC does Art Direction + Collaboration.
So far our “WHAT” has manifested in a multitude of avenues from producing music, photo + video shoots, video editing, songwriting, choreography, to custom clothing + crafting, blogging + podcasts, makeup artistry, fashion design + merchandising, branding, event planning + promotion. Mouthful.
The “HOW” we create depends on the project. Inspiration comes from all kinds of things, music, food, a dope visual or conversation, a good experience..a bad one lol. Each project has its own identity and we make it a point to stay true to whatever that may be at the moment.
Our most current focus is The CKreatives LIVE: A Dancehall Lifestyle Brand. It’s our way of celebrating Dancehall culture. The brand produces stylish life essentials – backpacks, Stainless Steel water bottles, sneakers, etc – that allow fans to represent their favorite artist, whether on a daily basis or at an event like a concert, festival or party.
Our overall goal as creators is to impact our community by using our talents, along with whoever we work with to bring meaningful, creative ideas to life. In 10 years we’d like to be able to say we had a major hand in removing the “starving artist” mentality by inspiring creatives to follow their dreams.

What responsibility, if any, do you think artists have to use their art to help alleviate problems faced by others? Has your art been affected by issues you’ve concerned about?
Every artist has different goals and intentions that drive their work. Mostly, artists create with some kind of response to the world around them. The role of any creative evolves naturally as they directly or indirectly reflect the times. If nothing else, they will at least serve as personal newspapers, reporting on events from their own perception, like paleontologists using drawings in a cave to pinpoint timelines in history.
The CKreatives LIVE is driven by Dancehall and we are definitely responding to the times and happenings of the culture. Our Spring/Summer 2018 Collection featured designs “Free Worl’ Boss” and “Medication”, direct responses to the incarceration of Dancehall living legend Vybz Kartel and the growing acceptance of marijuana in society and around the world. Our Fall/Winter 2018 Collection’s “#Unruly” highlights Popcaan as an influential Jamaican artist.
In our collaborative efforts, we are influenced by the points of view of other creatives which has manifested in different ways. For example, a few years ago we produced artist Camille Kaye’s ‘Rewind’ that was a response to the increased visibility of police brutality.
Currently, we are applying for a grant from the Knight Foundation with a performance art piece inspired by the lifelong debate of creation vs evolution. Every project is different.
