Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexandra Seda.
Alexandra, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My journey into the arts has been a life long adventure, being introduced at an early age and having an intuitive connection with the process and outcomes it rewards with. My childhood interest grew along with me and evolved into a love of the liberal arts and open creativity through many expressions.
I was born in Miami, Fl raised in a household where music was always a big influence and one of the most inspiring artistic expressions, so naturally my artwork began to connect and express the energy and passion that music holds.
As I grew, so did my love for the arts, and I eventually found an outlet through Hip Hop culture and peers who were into the same Hip Hop movement. Music, dancing and the visual arts had become one element in which they all worked to inspire each other and I found myself learning about Graffiti Art and Street Art. My artist name as Miss Lushy was chosen in the spirit of the Hip Hop graffiti essence and connects with my subject matter and use of vibrant colors. One of my favorite subjects has been to paint portraits of my favorite singers and musicians in a colorful and graphic aesthetic.
I found my artistic interests desiring to be nourished and continued my high school education enrolling into The Art Institute (MIU) where I graduated in 2008 with a Bachelors degree in Graphic Design. When I entered into my college education I found my path lead me to the world of visual communication, where I learned the principles of design solutions using effective typography, photography, and illustration. Combining my personal artistic endeavors with a formal education into the digital arts gave me a more complete vision on the endless possibilities of what an artist or designer can accomplish. Through my schooling were pathways to experience workplaces where I learned Silk Screening/Apparel Design, Photography & Digital retouching for advertising, and Large format printing/Vinyl car wraps. Within years that I spent working in the field I realized my heart was
longing for more of a traditional form of artistic expression and I choose to explore the more hands on route. Getting messy with paint and holding a brush is where the magic is at for me! Since then I’ve been pushing to grow as a visual artist and muralist. I only hope to continue my path and unfold all the inner potential I have yet to discover within myself.
Has it been a smooth road?
I would say its been far from smooth, BUT its been an ongoing process for me to keep myself motivated and inspired while dealing with life all at the same time. I lost someone very special to me recently and coping with the grieving process hasn’t been the easiest for me… I guess it never really is. I can say that I have reached a place where I’ve accepted the changes in my world and Im finally allowing myself to heal and get back into my creative groove again.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Miss Lushy story. Tell us more about the business.
Recently I’ve been concentrating on perfecting my craft as a sign artist doing hand lettering. I’ve dabbled more in hand painted logo work for local businesses. From time to time I design either branding or promo projects for clients. Im also always open for commission artwork. I consider myself very versatile and usually go into projects with an open mind and take each opportunity for a chance to grow and a challenge to expand my skills as an overall artist.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Well, If I visualize into the future I can see myself traveling and staying true to my calling. The main goal would be to keep consistent and continue to pursue higher knowledge in what I do and enjoy the process along the way.
Pricing:
- I usually price my work based on the project and size of whatever surface Im working on, whether it be a canvas or wall.
