Today we’d like to introduce you to Arturo Manuitt.
Arturo, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started working on Television in the year 2000 back in Venezuela as well as finishing my College degree in Mass communications with a mayor in Audiovisuals. It was a new venture, we were doing the first Sitcom in the country. Yes with live audiences and all. In the year 2002 I was selected to participate in a project call: ‘Trojan Horse’ in RCTV (Radio Caracas Televisión) with the purpose of developing new talent to create small production units for the Telenovela’s Area on the Network. I had the opportunity to work with the top actors, crew and producers there, and at the age of 23 start directing scenes for internationally acclaim Telenovelas and forged a career on the Network. I directed and participated in lots of Shows being the most relevant:
Juana La Virgen
Trapos Intimos
Que Buena Se Puso Lola
Ser Bonita No Basta
Mujer Con Pantalones
Amantes
Toda Una Dama
After 6 years on RCTV I decided to move to the next level when I get offer to Direct my first TV show for Nickelodeon LATAM. So I started that new path which brought me lots of new challenges and open new frontiers. That ‘small’ show that we started doing in Caracas became a sensation in Latin America, Brazil and the world: ISA TKM
After that success Nickelodeon decides to do a second season of this show in Colombia so I got to travel to beautiful Colombia to do the sequel: ISA TK+
Again really acclaim in Latin America, Brazil and the World. After the show ended I stayed working with TELESET Colombia for one more project and start a production call: 3 Milagros for RCN Television almost by the end that project Nickelodeon calls the production company and asks if I can go to Miami, USA to help them with this new show they are doing, so I travel to the US and start directing GRACHI. Which went for 3 seasons and Lots of awards and worldwide attention.
In between seasons I also participated in several Telenovelas here in the US for TELEMUNDO/NBC such as:
Relaciones Peligrosas
Corazón Valiente
Santa Diabla
Nickelodeon has been a big part on my career and development as a director and a creator. On the year 2013/14 the success on GRACHI and the hard work of everybody involved in it makes the Network realize that the team can do the same for the US market so we start developing:
Every Witch Way for NICK USA that went for 4 seasons and I had the privileged to Direct the First season and do the technical direction for season 4.
Later Will Come WITS ACADEMY a spin-off that I had the opportunity to direct all 20 episodes also for Nick USA.
Between Telenovelas and shows for kids also participated in Escándalos VIP which were TV movies (La Mafia de la moda, La belleza Interior, La Hija del Rey)
On the entertainment area once more for Nickelodeon LATAM we did a Game/Cooking Show call Food Hunters.
Also participated in 7 episodes of the TV movies Milagros de Navidad for TELEMUNDO/NBC:
Solos
El Milagro del Niño Diego
Navidad en Urgencias
La Pesadilla de Candelaria
Solo de Arpa
Un Milagro en la Cocina
Una Sorpresa para Elisa
Lately we’ve been producing and directing Commercials (How to Be a Latin Lover, SUBWAY, L’OREAL, Mission Impossible: Fall Out), writing and directing Music Videos, and creating new concepts, Pilots and different content for social media, videos, Photography, always curious and searching for new ways to reach the audiences and tell stories.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s never a Smooth Road. Yes I’d have lots of ‘luck’ but you always have to be prepared so you can seize the opportunity. Living away from your family, you country, new cultures, new ways of doing things are always a challenge but you will have a chance to learn out of all of that. It’s never easy but it’s always rewarding.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Arturo Manuitt Director and Content Creator – what should we know?
I’m a Director. That’s how I define myself professionally. But to direct you also have to have other skills, specially creating concepts and writing pieces that later you will be able to get your hands on and I think that’s what sets us apart, we are hands on in the developing of concepts from conception to creation and publication. if I’ve learn something is that in every Idea, Concept, Show, Commercial, Video or Photo you have to leave some skin or let it become part of you to be a success. We leave everything on the court for our clients.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Perseverance. If it’s what you love keep doing it, don’t stop. And always build a big contact list, save all the numbers.
