Today we’d like to introduce you to Marisa Folz.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
It all began in 2015, when I got my first job out of college working in a corporate setting. I quickly realized that it wasn’t for me. I quit and started working on creating The Wander Shop. I had an open mind going into building the brand and wanted it to grow organically so that there was always room for change and growth. At the time, I wasn’t ready to commit to a storefront so I started selling online and doing pop up shops in a tent. Six months later, I bought a 1963 Airstream trailer in which was created to be the shop’s first home. I fell in love with Eucalyptus Gardens and knew that would be a perfect space for the Airstream shop to be parked at day to day. A few months later, I got a second Airstream that we took on the road for events and festivals. And now, I will be opening up my first real storefront in August! It has taken me a lot of struggle, devotion, risks and numerous lessons learned to get to where I am today.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
One of my biggest struggles is keeping up with everything and time management. There is always so much to do and so little time! It has been very hard for me to let go of some of my responsibilities and delegate to the team but that is one thing I have been really working hard on getting better at.
Please tell us about The Wander Shop.
The Wander Shop is a lifestyle boutique curated of women’s & men’s apparel, accessories & gifts. Most people know of us as “that cute boutique in the Airstream”. We are proud that we carry a lot of local & small business brands. We also love to collaborate with other local brands in South Florida. I believe what sets us apart from others is our personality. We are all about celebrating good vibes and sharing that energy with our customers.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I always loved hanging out at my mom’s boutiques and playing dress up!
