Meet Ilyse Shuster-Frohman

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ilyse Shuster-Frohman.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
Originally from South Africa, Ilyse started painting at the age of 15 and earned a distinction in fine art by her senior year of high school. After graduation, Ilyse and her family immigrated to the United States. Upon immigration, with her family having settled in Boca Raton, Fl, she attended the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City and graduated with an AAS degree in Graphic and Advertising Design and a BAS degree in Marketing Communications.

She was influenced by the more industrial side of the U.S. yet continued to paint through college and after as a hobby mostly, briefly attending a few small art shows and having her own studio for a little while. Her art has always been the perfect outlet for documenting her life over the years and continues to live and breathe alongside her personal journey.

Ilyse now lives and works in South Florida where she runs her own Advertising and Creative Agency, which also incubates and develops various ventures. She continues her passion and creative expression via the arts as much as possible and hopes to dedicate a lot more time to her craft in the very near future.

Please tell us about your art.
Work includes inspiration from Salvador Dali, Freud, Plato, Surrealism, Dada, Mysticism and Pop Art and are all one of a kind original. No prints available. Images reflect and document personal feelings, observations and beliefs and also bring to life fantastical and dream-like characters, images and environments.

Ilyse shines a light on her observations and imagination, as this is a place where no filter needs to exist for the artist; a place where she can say things that upset, excite, enthrall or perplex her, and to put it all out into the world with no apologies or limitations.

She hopes that in doing so, it will also give other people comfort to know that they are not alone and that their feelings, beliefs, dreams, struggles and triumphs are the stuff of life: the parts of this journey that should be expressed, discussed, embraced and most importantly, shared.

Choosing a creative or artistic path comes with many financial challenges. Any advice for those struggling to focus on their artwork due to financial concerns?
Ilyse has dealt with this for many years and so adopted the Andy Warhol “FACTORY” model and found that the Advertising and Creative Service Industry is a great way to make practical dollars while focusing on her art as well. She is now using the Branding, Marketing and overall promotional skills she has honed in on over the years to bring her art into the spotlight rather than relying on Galleries or Shows to deliver. Shows are very costly and galleries are hard to rely on for many reasons. My advice is to learn how to self-promote and market and brand yourself properly so that your work and you as an artist are able to get noticed. Self-reliance is a wonderful thing to know that you have as an artist. I also like to offer my Advertising and Marketing skills to artists that just prefer to have or really just need help in this arena as I know how hard it is and genuinely would like to help true and good artists gain exposure and earn good money while being an artist. It is with great joy that I can share what I have learned and work with those whose creative spirit I admire. My overall advice is to never give up, believe in yourself and find a way that works for you to support your passions.

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
Currently all work is sold and exhibited exclusively via her Advertising and Creative Agency, Ilyse Terri, Llc and on their website at ilyseterri.com. People can buy her work there under the store and fine art category as well as other artists’ submissions as they are available. To support Ilyse Terri’s art, please purchase her current works, all originals on canvas via the Ilyse Terri website: ilyseterri.com and like, comment and follow her and her agency @ilyseterri on IG and @ilytshu which is her personal IG and on twitter at the same handles for her Agency and Personal profile. The month of August will be dedicated to sharing fine art pieces that she has created and that are for sale and so sharing those to friends or colleagues or simply purchasing yourself would be so appreciated and will allow Ilyse to continue to deliver new and wonderful pieces of art and expand into other passions such as music and poetry.
