Life and Work with Pamela Wasabi

Today we’d like to introduce you to Pamela Wasabi.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Pamela. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My story began when I got pregnant in 2012. I was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism. The danger of this condition was I could lose my baby or my life while giving birth. I was forced to look for solutions to help my body cope with this imbalance. It was then I discovered integrative nutrition, a plant-based diet, and cooking. My life took a turn into self-discovery, a healing path, and a nourishing journey.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My mission is bigger than what I can fit into a title. I don’t cook or do what I do to fulfill an idea of what I should be called or recognized as. I don’t work toward that social standard. My vocation is one of service and seeks/provide education. I surrendered my life to be an instrument and used for a purpose: to contribute to the well-being of our community. My passion is driven by the beauty of life itself.

Please tell us about AMLA MIAMI.
I created a line of baked goods that launched in November of 2016. Our concept is to live in harmony with nature. We strive to respect the process and the ingredients. Our food is a medium of education, meant to inspire people to eat and intuitively connect within. We want to eradicate fear from the table and from our relationship with food; foster radical self-responsibility for every one of our choices.

Do you think there are structural or other barriers impeding the emergence of more female leaders?
The biggest barrier to female leadership is thinking to be at the top is a battle of the sexes or a means to prove one is worthy. Leadership needs to come from compassion, a sense of service, and commitment to the overall well-being of the planet.
