Today we’d like to introduce you to Kyle Schroeder.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I am a Saxophonist from the Tampa Bay Area! I grew up playing rock guitar and classical oboe in my middle school band program at Seven Springs Middle School! During my time at Mitchell High School (2012-2016), I heard and saw a well-known saxophonist named Eric Darius preform the Tampa Bay Black Heritage Festival! I was sold! THAT was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life! So, that night, I told my mom… “I need to buy a good saxophone!” over and over again (I had one that was beat up/given to me buy a friend that got me started). Finally she gave in, and we purchased a great saxophone to get me started. I started practicing hard, many hours a day. I met local musicians and was able to play restaurant gigs throughout my time high school. Once my senior year came, I had to make the big decision…what next? I am happy to tell you that I made the right choice! I chose to continue my growth as a musician at University of Miami’s Frost School of Music! I am currently a double major in Jazz Saxophone/Music Business and Entrepreneurship, and I love it! I am learning and growing in so many ways!
However, while in school, it is important to get the on-the-job experience of performing! I have been so lucky to share stages small and large with artists such as Ben Tankard, Mindi Abair, Eric Darius, Nick Colionne, The Ries Brothers, TwoFriends, Marcus Anderson, Bk Jackson, Four80East, and Brian Culbertson to name few. I have a passion for saxophone, jazz, expression, and preforming and I want to make a life for myself centered around my passions! I am currently going into my Junior year at the University of Miami and I am in the recording process for my debut cd, working with some amazing chart-topping producers in my genre of music!
Please tell us about your art.
My art is all sonic, and some visual. I am a musician and a sax player who wants to positively affect the lives of others. When people see me preform, I want them to feel something! I want to draw away their attention from any problems they may be facing to how they feel in the moment. I want them to feel happy, joyous, and enlightened. And If I can get them out of their seats and dancing, I have done my job. I love the way music brings people together! It is truly a gift from God! I want to minister LOVE through my music!
People should know that I am the next up and coming cross-over jazz saxophonist/artist. My style infuses R&B, Funk, Smooth Jazz, and Jazz to get people on their feet and to get their ears to perk up!
We often hear from artists that being an artist can be lonely. Any advice for those looking to connect with other artists?
Yes! Music and all forms of art can be challenging, and sometimes lonely. This day in age, artists have the ability to connect with other people doing a similar thing as them. Connect with them on social media! I love seeing messages from fellow musicians, some of which, have turned into lifelong friends of mine! One of my favorite saxophonists EVER David Sanborn, told me to “always remember how it felt when you first started.” That helped me out so much because it brought me to re-asses at the core reasons why I play music!
How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
Right now, you can follow me on all social media outlets. That is where I keep my fans updated with what I am up to, where I’m preforming, and who I am preforming with.
