Thanks for sharing your story with us Shay. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
It has always been a dream of mine to own my own business. I just have an entrepreneurial spirit that I’ve always known I wanted to capitalize on. Once I became a mother, I knew 100% that one day I wanted to be free to run my own business. Back in October 2015, when my 2nd child was just turning 2, I decided I was going to give this dream a go. I have always loved fashion and especially jewelry so I knew I had a natural fit. I made my initial inventory investment and was ready to hit the ground running. I started a private Facebook group with 200 friends and I was on my way. Exactly three days later, my husband ended up in the emergency room with a rare nerve disorder called Guillain Barre Syndrome. Within 48 hours he was completely paralyzed and very close to being put on a ventilator. It was a horrifying time for our entire family, yet the business I had literally just launched was picking up. Once my husband was stable, I pushed forward and had over 7,000 members in my VIP group within 12 months. I have since launched a public website and am expanding daily.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The biggest struggle was when my husband fell ill. I was starting a new business, raising two kids and doing everything I could do to help him. Once he was home, he had to have help with just about everything or quite some time. I thank God every day that he made it, it was such a close call and such a terrible time for our family. The other struggle I have had has been with Facebook algorithm changes and getting my content seen by the right people. I have been pushing through this and it was actually the thing that pushed me out of my comfort zone and into managing the public website.
