Today we’d like to introduce you to Valerie Edery.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Being raised in an entrepreneurial family home, I’ve always been an entrepreneur and an innate leader myself. Since an early age, I created projects from the ground up. In middle school, I designed dog’s accessories, manufactured them and sold them all over the city. In high school, I led and organized many school events to raise money for our senior trip.
I studied Marketing and Advertisement in College in Cali (Colombia) while studying became passionate about event planning and public relations.
After college, I had the amazing opportunity to work for an International Cosmetics Brand in Miami. It gave me the exposure needed to learn the US and LATAM marketplace as well as corporate structure and organization.
I had the opportunity to lead event planning and execution in-house and gave me extensive knowledge of the industry and corporate needs.
After 4 years in the corporate world, I decided to embark on a new journey – start an event planning company focused on corporate events. The company started with my brother and two other partners.
Starting our own company was a challenge and it will be a challenge as we continue to grow, learn from our customers and continue to innovate in the industry. I believe the key to success is to always have the right mindset and continue to always push through to achieve your personal and company goals.
Has it been a smooth road?
The biggest challenge is right when you are starting a business.
In this industry, customers want to work with experienced companies with extensive portfolios. It’s very difficult to get an initial shot and very easy to get discouraged.
We were persistent and kept our “chin up” after many rejections when we started. When we got our first shot, we took advantage of that opportunity and ever since our challenge is to maintain existing relationships and always look for new business.
Other challenges have been:
-Cashflow management
-Finding a balance between my business and my personal life is a challenge. I became a mom two years ago.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Lemonjoy Events – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
