Paula & Kevin Tolly are a husband and wife team. Musicians, singers / songwriters with a self-produced organic style. 33 Years is the culmination of 33 years of musical experience and after many years away from the music scene, we’re back playing, touring and recording.
Paula met Kevin back the early 80’s in the New York Metro area. We met through classical guitar but soon drifted back to our love of Rock and Pop. Both of us played in various bands during High School. Paula studied Theory at Manhattan School of Music and Kevin holds his undergraduate degree from The Hartt College of Music and a Masters degree from Manhattan School of Music.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
This South Florida-based indie-rock band focuses on tight, swirling harmonies, folkpunk-like musical backing, ragged Neil Young influences and tenor vocals initially drew comparisons to fellow Southern-based indie folk rockers Shovels & Rope. Multi-instrumentalists Paula and Kevin formed the group in 2009 after a twenty something year hiatus from the mainstream musical world. Clearly, 33 Years brings a vast array of Roots based music into focus with precision execution.
How do you think about success, as an artist, and what do quality do you feel is most helpful?
We love it when people come up to us and say ‘ Wow, I never knew about that song before. Now, I really like it.’ Turning people on to great music is what we love most about our performances. Sometimes we play acoustic, sometimes rock – in either case, we guarantee that you will come away with some tunes you haven’t ever heard before.
