Today we’d like to introduce you to Mark Gemignani.
Mark, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’ve been a construction industry entrepreneur for 40 years. Started in Arlington, Virginia, building additions and renovating kitchens and bathrooms on the pre-war, colonial style homes, adjacent to Washington, DC.
I moved into commercial construction in 1989, where we built space for the tech, defense, association, financial and federal government markets in the Washington, DC metro area. I moved to Coral Gables in 2005, where I partnered with another individual and developed high-end residential condominiums in mid-town Manhattan. In 2008, when the bottom dropped out of the market, I formed Dominion Builders.
During this great recession, we built the firm based on federally funded local government contracts, the only entity that was spending any money at the time. Currently, the company has flourished, based on the careful recruitment and the contributions of key individuals on our team.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The road has been far from smooth. We’ve navigated through a long recession, very competitive marketplace, and the uncertainty of delayed and scrubbed contracts. That said, we’ve managed to keep stability with a strong staff of industry professionals. Our pipeline of new business is exciting and robust.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Dominion Builders, LLC – what should we know?
Dominion focuses on several key markets: Commercial construction and renovation, hospitality & restaurants, medical & laboratory facilities, and capital improvements for condominium associations.
We also have a division, DominionAG, that designs and builds fully automated indoor cultivation facilities, on a national platform, solely for the produce and cannabis industries.
We are unique in that we are able to apply our customer-centric focus on key markets, and we’re proficient at executing projects anywhere in the United States.
