Today we’d like to introduce you to David Thomas.
Hi David, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My background is aircraft maintenance control — precision, documentation, no margin for error, that’s just how I was wired. About four years ago I moved down to South Florida, got connected to my local church, started helping out, and somehow ended up running the whole facility. Keeping everything clean, organized, functioning. And I realized I was genuinely good at it and actually enjoyed it, so I started Elevate. I’ve had other businesses, sold other things, but this one pulled everything together in a way nothing else did. We specialize in high-end office environments and showrooms — the kind of spaces where first impressions are everything and the details actually matter. I built the team from the ground up, we’ve got recurring contracts across Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach, and we show up to every single one the same way. The standard I learned in aviation lives in how we operate. We’re committed to excellence and we’re just getting started.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Smooth? No. Not even close. The first year was honestly just figuring it out — we were doing houses, one-off deep cleans, whatever came through the door. It paid the bills but it wasn’t the vision. We were also spending too much energy trying to network and connect with other businesses before we even had our own house in order. That was a lesson. Once we stopped looking outward and started focusing on what we were actually best at — routine commercial cleaning, recurring contracts, consistent service — everything started to shift. That’s when Elevate became Elevate.
We’ve been around two years this October and the difference between year one and where we are now is night and day. Getting the right people in the right seats changed everything. Abraham came in and took over sales, Sean locked down operations, and the whole thing started running like it was supposed to. In the early days my father even came out and helped us clean when people didn’t show — that kind of support you don’t forget. I cleaned and maintained plenty of accounts myself when I had to. I don’t have to anymore, but I’m never too good to pick up a broom and work next to my team. That part of me hasn’t changed and it never will.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Elevate is a commercial cleaning company built specifically for businesses that actually care about how their space looks and feels. We specialize in high-end office environments and showrooms — the kind of spaces where the cleanliness of a room is a direct reflection of the brand inside it. Law firms, medical offices, aerospace facilities, professional spaces across Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach — these are our people.
What I’m most proud of is that we don’t just clean buildings, we protect what our clients have built. Their professionalism, their reputation, the health of everyone who walks through their doors — that’s what’s actually at stake every time we show up. And we take that seriously.
But honestly what I’m most proud of is the team. Sean runs operations, Abraham handles sales, and on the floor we’ve got people like Viviana and Martin who bring it every single time — Martin and Viviana are literally employees of the week right now. These aren’t just workers, they’re people who bought into the standard and show up for it every day. That means everything to me. You can have the best systems in the world but if the people aren’t right none of it matters. Ours are right.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Honestly? Feeling like I’m doing what I’m supposed to be doing. When the team is working, the clients are taken care of, and everything is running the way it should — that feeling is hard to beat. I have God in my heart and only He knows how hard we had to work to get here. Every contract, every early morning, every moment where we could have quit and didn’t — none of that was lost on me. That’s what makes this whole thing mean something. It’s not just a business. It’s proof.
