Hidden Gems: Meet Davonia Greenslade of Mommas Bellies and More

Today we’d like to introduce you to Davonia Greenslade.

Hi Davonia, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I have always wanted to work with pregnant women and babies since I was a teenager. After moving to Miami I got into birth work. As I was studying to be a midwife I started doula work.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I really have a passion for birth work so my love for it makes it really easy. The hardest part was adjusting life as a mom, being in school and working full time. Now that I have completed all training it has been a fairly smooth transition.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Mommas Bellies and More….the name says it all. I focus on providing care for pregnant mommas as their midwife or doula depending on what they choose. As a licensed midwife I provide prenatal care, home birth delivery and postpartum care. As a doula I am an advocate childbirth educator and birth coach for my moms. My goal in both positions is to have healthy mommas and babies. My clients are my top priority. I also provide postpartum night doula support, this is where after the mom has delivered I am with her a few nights a week to ensure she has adequate help and support for a full recovery.

I really love what I do, it truly is my passion. I don’t consider it a job at all I look forward to doing this work everyday. It brings me so much joy to know that I am apart of the journey for these women and their families.

In addition to Mommas Bellies and More I also provide Midwifery services with Miami Midwifery Center where we offer home birth deliveries as well.

When you love what you do It’s not considered a job. It’s a passion, one that I don’t plan on letting go of.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I do hope that women continue to educate themselves about birth and postpartum and realize everything that comes along with going through this process. People will continue to have babies whether it’s with midwives or doctors, my goal is to educate them on how to take care of themselves physically and mentally and to ensure that they know their rights and not be afraid to use their voices because not matter what, it is their journey they have a say.
