Today we’d like to introduce you to Chelsea Chico.
Hi Chelsea, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started my journey at the University of Miami during undergrad, originally with the goal of going to medical school. To support myself through school, I worked in the nightlife scene, and what began as a way to pay tuition unexpectedly became one of the most transformative parts of my story.
Working exclusive events and being immersed in Miami’s creative and social scene introduced me to an entirely different world built on art, fashion, culture, and connection. Through networking and simply being open to opportunities, one door naturally led to another. I was invited to work high-profile events, walk in shows during Art Basel and Miami Swim Week, assist with art showcases, and even mentor and coach other models. Those experiences helped me realize that creativity and human connection were strengths I wanted to continue exploring.
At the same time, my academic journey took an unexpected but deeply meaningful turn when I found my way into public health. I quickly became passionate about the gaps I saw in education and access, especially when it came to how health information was reaching communities. I decided to lean into that challenge and became heavily involved in adolescent health education throughout Miami-Dade County, speaking at schools and helping bring public health information directly to young people through partnerships with the Florida Department of Health.
Looking back, my story has really been about allowing different passions to coexist. I never fit into one traditional category, and I’ve learned that’s actually my greatest strength. Whether in creative spaces, community health, or now through content creation and authentic storytelling, every opportunity came from being willing to connect, learn, and say yes when new doors opened.
Socializing and building relationships were never fears of mine, and that ability to move confidently between creative, academic, and professional spaces is what ultimately shaped the multidimensional path I’m on today.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, it definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, and I think that’s what has made the journey so meaningful.
A big part of my early path involved balancing multiple worlds at once. While I was in undergrad at the University of Miami, I was working long nights in nightlife and events to support myself through school, which often meant late hours followed by early mornings for classes, studying, and other responsibilities. There were weekends where I was running on barely ten hours of sleep total, constantly moving from one commitment to the next.
That season of life taught me how to become extremely intentional with my time. I had to learn how to plan meticulously, manage demanding schedules, and stay focused even when things felt exhausting. It wasn’t just about work and school either—the real challenge was learning how to balance family, personal ambition, and the drive to keep building toward something bigger.
At times, it felt like I was living several lives at once: student, creative, professional, and family-oriented person. The hardest part was making sure none of those parts of me got neglected while still pushing forward.
Looking back, those struggles taught me resilience, discipline, and adaptability. They showed me that success rarely comes from a perfectly smooth path—it comes from learning how to keep showing up, even when the pace is demanding.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My work has always lived at the intersection of public health, education, and creative storytelling.
Professionally, I specialize in public health with a strong focus on community education, prevention, and improving how critical health information reaches people in ways that are accessible and meaningful. A large part of what I’m known for is my ability to translate complex or sensitive health topics into conversations that feel human, relatable, and actionable—especially for adolescents and underserved communities. Throughout my career, I’ve taken pride in leading educational initiatives, speaking engagements, and community outreach efforts that help bridge the gap between information and real-world impact.
At the same time, creativity has always been a major part of who I am. Outside of my formal career path, I’ve built a presence through authentic content creation and lifestyle storytelling, sharing the multidimensional parts of my life—career, school, travel, culture, and the experiences that shape me. What started as simply documenting my life naturally evolved into brand partnerships and collaborations because people connected with the authenticity behind what I was sharing.
What I’m most proud of is that I never allowed myself to be limited to one lane. I’ve been able to build credibility in public health while still honoring my creative identity, and I think that balance is what truly sets me apart. I’m equally comfortable speaking in academic and medical spaces, engaging directly with communities, or creating content that resonates on a personal level.
What makes my path unique is the ability to blend science, strategy, and storytelling in a way that feels both impactful and genuine. At the center of everything I do is connection—whether it’s educating a community, mentoring others, or creating content that helps people feel seen.
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Something surprising that most people who know me through my work or personal brand might not immediately realize is just how many layers there are to who I am.
A lot of people first see the polished, public-facing parts of my life—public health, community education, content creation, travel, and lifestyle storytelling. But beneath that, there’s a deeply creative and imaginative side of me that has always been just as important.
I often joke that I’m like an onion because the more people get to know me, the more unexpected layers they uncover. Beyond the professional and social spaces, I’m deeply inspired by art, fantasy, anime, gaming, and world-building. Those interests have actually played a huge role in how I think creatively, communicate stories, and connect with different communities.
I think people are often surprised by how seamlessly science and imagination coexist in my life. I can go from discussing community health strategies and graduate-level science to talking about character building, storytelling, travel experiences, or the creative inspiration I pull from different cultures and fictional worlds.
That layered mix of intellect, creativity, and curiosity is what makes me who I am, and I believe it’s also what makes my work and the way I connect with people feel authentic. There’s always more beneath the surface, and I’ve learned to embrace every layer.
