Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura Madero.
Hi Laura, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
“My journey began when I decided to study interior design in college, where I developed a strong foundation in spatial planning and a deep appreciation for how thoughtful design can transform everyday living. Early on, I found myself drawn to the technical side of design, which led me into the millwork industry.
I started working on kitchens and other custom cabinetry projects, and over time, that hands-on experience evolved into something much bigger. I eventually founded my own millwork company, where we design, fabricate, and install fully custom cabinetry tailored to each client’s lifestyle. Our work ranges from closets and kitchens to laundry rooms, mudrooms, and garages—essentially any space where functionality and design need to coexist seamlessly.
While fabrication is at the core of what we do, I’m often involved in the design process as well, helping clients create spaces that are not only highly functional but also feel elevated and intentional. That combination of design perspective and technical execution is really what has shaped where I am today.”
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
“It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road, but I think that’s part of what has shaped both my perspective and the company today. Working in millwork and construction, especially as a woman, came with its own set of challenges early on. I had to earn trust, establish credibility, and navigate an industry that can be very technical and demanding.
However, those challenges pushed me to become more disciplined, detail-oriented, and solution-driven. Looking back, I see those obstacles not as setbacks, but as essential steps that allowed me to grow into a stronger designer”
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
“At The Closet Lab, we specialize in fully custom millwork, with a strong focus on creating tailored storage solutions that elevate both functionality and the overall aesthetic of a space. While we are widely known for our closets—where the company first began—we have expanded over the years to design and build a wide range of cabinetry, including kitchens, laundry rooms, mudrooms, and more.
What truly defines us is our attention to detail and the level of care we bring to every project. We approach each client with the same dedication, whether it’s a single closet or a full-scale home solution. For us, every space matters because it directly impacts how our clients live day to day.
We are also very hands-on throughout the entire process. From the initial concept to the final installation, we stay closely involved to ensure everything is executed to the highest standard. We don’t consider a project complete until our client feels completely satisfied—not just with the result, but with the entire experience of working with us.
I believe what sets us apart is that combination of design sensibility, technical precision, and genuine client care. We’re not just creating cabinetry—we’re creating spaces that are thoughtful, intentional, and truly personalized.”
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
“What I love most about Miami is its incredible cultural diversity. It’s a city where so many influences come together—design, fashion, food, and lifestyle—and that creates a very unique energy. As a designer, that constant mix of perspectives is incredibly inspiring and keeps my work evolving. There’s always something new to discover, and it naturally translates into more dynamic and personalized spaces for my clients.
If I had to choose something I like the least, it would probably be the traffic. Like any growing city, it comes with its challenges, but it’s a small trade-off for everything Miami has to offer.”
