Daily Inspiration: Meet Maya Azucena

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maya Azucena.

Hi Maya, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve been a full-time touring and recording artist for 15+ years. Born and raised in Brooklyn New York, I’m currently a resident in Coconut Grove Miami, yet consider myself a woman of the world.

Music has not only been my career, it is also my “calling.” I see my voice as a superpower to help others, to give voice to the voiceless, to spread stories of resilience, and to acknowledge the dark we pass through sometimes to reach our light.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I am, in fact, a creative entrepreneur. As a solo-preneur, like any small business owner, I have the most to gain when things go well and the most to lose when things go wrong. This means, I absolutely go through ups and downs.

The music industry is a tough place to navigate if you’re an artist. We do not traditionally earn from the products we create (that is, our songs), so we find ourselves monetizing in a multitude of ways. In my case, I’m a live artist and make the bulk of my income from concert stages and live appearances. I have toured to 40+ countries and consider this is a wonder, as I’ve achieved this primarily while managing myself, without a booking agent, record label or commercial partner.

I also produce events. I also do a lot in the humanitarian and women’s empowerment space which means, I both sing and speak at non-traditional venues such as conferences and retreats. I facilitate workshops and masterclasses on self-confidence. It is very difficult at times so, I have to remain positive, creative, and nurture healthy relationships that often manifest job opportunities.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I sing. I sing and record songs that I write. I sing songs that I love, that I didn’t write. I sing on stages, around the world. In all cases, I sing “as though someone’s life depends on it.”

It’s been revealed to me that music is MY power. I’m assigned to use my gifts as a tool for healing, empowerment, and delivering messages of hope to the world. My voice is the entrance point to my many other works which include public speaking, event production, empowerment-workshops and more. I believe that we all have our own set of unique gifts/powers and are being called to show up as our authentic selves; this can inspire and heal others. Sometimes we don’t realize that simply daring to be ourselves brings light to others.

I am proud that I’ve lived my life intuitively as a walk of faith, for my entire career. It’s never been boring, never particularly easy, and always FREE. It’s been a true entrepreneur’s journey. I’ve seen that limits are imposed from outside of us, and if we allow ourselves to dream and act on our inner convictions, and not get stuck inside of other people’s ideas of us, our life takes on the profound shape of our soul.

This means “do not give up”. This means, do not stop when someone who does not share your vision tells you “no”. This means, take a chance on yourself and work for yourself with at least the same confidence and effort we give to an employer. We can see incredible results from this because we often have more power to manifest than we give ourselves credit for.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
Being aligned with my purpose matters most. Why? Because if I build my life on anything that is not truly for me, it will fail in the end. We tend to force things, and they seem to work for a time and then ultimately break away from us (or, break us) as our choices prove to not be a fit for our soul.

My biggest desire is to help others through their dark moments with my songs, voice and teachings. As an Empath, I’ve been uniquely capable of feeling others, tuning in to their potential, and helping people to tap into their authentic and empowered version.

I’d love to sing for you, with you, and offer you all the universal lessons I was given to help me on my own life path.

My “I Am Enough” course incorporates all the things I learned, to help me through the twists and turns of my life and career. I sincerely want to share this knowledge with other women who are ready to come home to themselves — and from that place, create the life and vision that truly reflects who they are.
I’m here to inspire women to
• Access their authentic vision
• Understand what they truly want (not what they’ve been told to want)
• Remove internal resistance
• Align emotionally and mentally with their vision
• Take grounded, confident action toward it

You are not alone. Ever. I’m here to remind you of that.
