Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniela Sanchez Vegas.
Hi Daniela , it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My journey as an artist has been a very organic and intuitive process. I’m originally from Caracas, Venezuela, and from a very young age I felt a deep connection to color, expression, and creating. I didn’t follow a traditional fine art path—instead, I’m a self-taught artist, which allowed me to explore freely and develop my own visual language without limitations.
Before fully committing to art, I studied Social Communication and later Graphic Design, which gave me a strong foundation in visual storytelling and composition. My time living in Costa Rica was especially transformative. There, I founded an eco-focused furniture project called Re-Inventando Muebles Ecológicos, where I began working with recycled materials and developed a deeper awareness of sustainability—something that still strongly influences my work today.
When I moved to the United States in 2016, I made the decision to fully dedicate myself to my artistic career. I started exploring different mediums—painting, murals, sculpture, ceramics—and pushing myself to work on larger and more public-facing projects. Over time, that led to opportunities to create murals, large-scale installations, and public art pieces across different cities and countries.
My work is deeply inspired by nature, personal growth, and human connection. I use vibrant color and layered compositions to evoke emotion, energy, and a sense of positivity. Public art, in particular, became a big part of my practice because it allows me to connect directly with communities and transform everyday spaces into something meaningful and alive.
Today, my practice continues to evolve. I work across multiple disciplines, from large-scale murals to sculpture and immersive concepts, always guided by my philosophy of “creating with no boundaries.” My goal is not only to grow as an artist, but also to create work that resonates with people, brings joy, and contributes something lasting to the environments it inhabits.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
t definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Being a self-taught artist means you’re constantly figuring things out on your own—not just creatively, but also on the business side. There’s no clear roadmap, so a lot of my growth has come from trial, error, and persistence.
One of the biggest challenges has been breaking into the public art world. Many opportunities require experience at a certain scale, but at the same time, you need those opportunities to gain that experience. It can feel like a cycle that’s hard to enter. I’ve had moments of rejection, projects I didn’t get, and proposals that took a lot of time and energy without a return.
Financially, it can also be challenging. Art fairs, exhibitions, and even some opportunities that are presented to artists often come with high costs, and not all of them truly support the artist. Learning how to navigate that—and understanding my value—has been an important part of my journey.
There have also been challenges in collaborations and project execution—working with different teams, timelines, and expectations. Those experiences have taught me to be clearer, more structured, and to protect both my work and my time.
But honestly, every challenge has shaped me. It’s made me more resilient, more focused, and more intentional about the opportunities I choose. I’ve learned that consistency and believing in your vision are everything. Growth in this field isn’t linear, but if you stay committed, things start to align in the right way.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
’m a multidisciplinary artist specializing in murals, public art, and large-scale installations. My work lives at the intersection of abstract, pop, and contemporary styles, often combining bold geometric structures with organic, nature-inspired elements. Color is at the center of everything I do—I use it as a language to express emotion, movement, and connection.
Over the years, I’ve developed a practice that moves fluidly between mediums, from painting and murals to sculpture and immersive concepts. A big part of my work is creating site-specific pieces that respond to their environment—whether that’s a city wall, a public park, or a private space. I’m especially drawn to projects that allow me to connect with communities and transform spaces into something more alive, meaningful, and engaging.
I’m known for my vibrant color palettes, layered compositions, and the energy my work brings into a space. There’s usually a sense of rhythm and flow in my pieces—something that feels both structured and intuitive at the same time. I also bring a strong ecological awareness into my work, often inspired by nature, growth, and the relationship between humans and their environment.
What I’m most proud of is the evolution of my career into the public art space. Creating large-scale murals and sculptures that people interact with daily is incredibly meaningful to me. Seeing how a piece can shift the energy of a place—or how people connect emotionally with it—is something I value deeply.
What sets me apart is my ability to merge artistic expression with adaptability. I don’t limit myself to one medium or style, and I approach each project with a fresh perspective while still maintaining a strong visual identity. I also bring a balance between creativity and execution—I understand not only how to design impactful work, but also how to deliver it professionally, at scale, and in collaboration with others.
At the core of my practice is the idea of creating without boundaries—pushing beyond limits while staying grounded in purpose, connection, and impact.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Something that might surprise people is that, even though my work is very bold, expressive, and full of energy, I’m actually a very reserved person. I’m still learning about life, growing through my own experiences, and I don’t always find it easy to open up or connect right away with new people.
Creating has become my way of processing everything. It’s my space to reflect, to release emotions, and to find clarity when things feel overwhelming. In many ways, art has been my escape—but also my way of understanding life more deeply.
I think that contrast is a big part of who I am: my inner world is quiet and introspective, while my work is vibrant and expansive. That balance is what drives me, and it’s what gives my work its emotional depth.
