Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexandra and Philipp Klumpp.
Alexandra and Philipp, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
We knew the basic: we wanted to show Miami in a new, different and positive light, expose all of its hidden gems and highlight its future. We knew we wanted to start with Instagram as our platform. Our storyline “there’s more to Miami than South Beach” started during a Eurotrip my brother and I took together. Everyone we met (from other countries and the US) automatically thought “South Beach” when they would hear we’re from Miami. They’d ask us about the parties, clubs, beaches, and even drugs.
This led us to think about how Lebron said he was “taking his talents to South Beach” yet the AAA is Downtown. It dawned on us that there was this huge misconception that Miami = South Beach. We realized then, that we want people to know and appreciate the unique history that is here, the art, culture, people, events, etc. going on throughout the city. We want to bring to light all Miami has to offer, which is a lot, beyond South Beach.
We want to shift Miami’s brand away from the stereotype. Boom. We started the Instagram account. Though I (Alex) am in every photo, the brand is really all about Miami. The focal point of each photo and caption is Miami. I am there to humanize the brand, and to show people they can trust what I write about – because I’m living it.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It’s been a smooth road but the real struggle along the way has been creating new, enticing content that continues to engage our audience and stays true to the core of who we are. Finding that struggle can be difficult sometimes, but we’ve managed to do a good job.
We love what we do, but the struggles are in keeping our audience entertained and coming up with creative posts that entertain our audience while maintaining our core mission.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
We’re a sibling duo exploring everything there is in Miami outside of South Beach. We travel as far as Homestead and as close as our neighborhood of Coconut Grove. We showcase the city’s history. architecture, culture, events, parks, restaurants, and more. You name it – seriously. Right now, our brand lives mostly on Instagram as a photo-journal but we also host an event called Meet Miami. Our website is coming soon – stay tuned.
I’m most proud of our editorial-like captions combined with visually-compelling photos. It’s a new way of journalism, and it’s awesome to be a part of it. I think we’re doing something different in terms of journalism. Right up there with humansofNY. – Philipp
When I step back and look at the bigger picture of what my brother and I have created, I feel so proud. I am so happy to know we are supporting local businesses, along with providing couples and friends with fun date nights and days of adventure. We are highlighting our city in a positive light. We’re doing good, even if in a small way. – Alex
