Conversations with Jena Langer

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jena Langer.

Hi Jena, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My love for photography started early, inspired by my father, who never left home without his camera. In high school, I spent three years on the yearbook team, capturing moments and events around campus. Then in 2011, my husband gifted me my first DSLR, and I began photographing friends and family who wanted to preserve their memories. What began as a hobby quickly became a passion, and over time, that passion grew into Jena Langer Photography, which has been going strong now for 11 years. What started as capturing moments for fun has become a meaningful way to serve families, friends, and clients by giving them memories they can hold onto forever.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Building a small business isn’t for the weak, and photography hasn’t always been an easy path. It’s a luxury service, not a necessity, so there are seasons when people prioritize other expenses before booking a session. On top of that, phones today can take great photos, which sometimes makes people feel like they don’t need a professional. But what keeps me going is knowing that photography is so much more than just pressing a button. It’s the experience, the eye, the storytelling, and the ability to capture genuine emotion in a way that lasts. Even with the challenges, I’m grateful for the clients who see the value in what I do and trust me with their memories.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in lifestyle photography that captures real emotion, genuine connection, and the in-between moments that often mean the most. I work with families, couples, maternity clients, newborns, and seniors, and I’m known for creating a relaxed, natural experience where people feel comfortable being themselves. My goal is always to deliver images that feel authentic, photos that truly reflect the stories, personalities, and relationships in front of my camera.

I’m most proud of the trust I’ve built with my clients over the years. Many of them have allowed me to document everything from their engagements to their babies to their growing families. Being able to follow their journeys and create memories they can look back on forever is the greatest reward of my work.

What sets me apart is my approach. I don’t just take photos—I guide, connect, and create an environment where people can genuinely enjoy the moment. I focus heavily on emotion and storytelling rather than stiff poses, and I always strive to deliver images that feel warm, timeless, and deeply personal. After 11 years in business, I’m grateful to still be doing what I love, which is preserving memories in a way that feels honest and meaningful.

What matters most to you?
I constantly catch myself at night going through my own camera roll, looking at photos of when my kids were little. Preserving memories is at the heart of everything I do. Life moves quickly, kids grow fast, and moments that feel small today become priceless tomorrow. Knowing that I’m freezing those little pieces of time for families means everything to me. Another part that matters most to me is client experience. It’s extremely important to me that my clients and I have fun because a positive experience becomes a memory all on its own. When we dance, laugh, play, and have fun during a session, kids and family members feel relaxed and genuinely enjoy themselves, and that’s when the magic happens.
