Today we’d like to introduce you to Christina Allen.
Christina, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
A few years ago, my husband and I decided to go all in before we started to build our family. At this time, we were both working our way up the corporate ladders. We made the decision to sell our home and go all in. What did we have to lose? It was just the two of us, we were in our 20s, so we could always pick our lives back and start over. With that being said, we sold the house and went on a hunt to find a business to purchase.
After reviewing a couple of different companies for sale, we came across EmbroidMe/Fully Promoted, as it fit what we were looking for in terms of location, price, hours, etc. We began negotiations to purchase in May 2017 and closed December 8. Since then, we’ve seen one of the highest months of sales in the last 2 years in March, just a few months after closing on the business.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The road hasn’t been the easiest, but it has been manageable. Going from a structured corporate lifestyle to the world of an entrepreneur comes with its share of challenges.
Learning how to manage time while learning the business and growing it is difficult.
Whether you purchase an existing business or start from scratch, there can be a learning curve. For me, one of the biggest struggles was assembling the right team together. I was fortunate to have inherited a fantastic productions genius, so that was one less position to worry about. However, trying to hire other positions, such as a sales representative has been challenging.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Fully Promoted Delray Beach story. Tell us more about the business.
We are the marketing department to small and medium-sized businesses. Essentially, we are a one-stop shop for their branding and digital marketing needs. We offer a wide variety of services. We are primarily known for custom apparel (uniforms, team wear, embroidery, screen printing, etc), but we also offer print services (business cards, flyers, postcards, rack cards), event branding (tents, tablecloths, banners and flags), lead generation services, and digital marketing services.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
If we are to define good luck as the moment when preparation meets opportunity and bad luck as a developmental experience, I would say that it has played a tremendous role in my life. I’ve spent a great deal of time planning and preparing so that when the opportunity comes knocking, I can open the door.
While my life has not always been the best, I would not say that it was a result of bad luck. From early challenges associated with the incarceration of my father from the time I was 3, to the loss of my mother at 12, life has taught me the value of perspective in order to find the lessons in even the worst situations.
