Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Jermaine and Racquel Domonique Wright of The Treasure Coast

We recently had the chance to connect with Jermaine and Racquel Domonique Wright and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Jermaine and Racquel Domonique , thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
That’s a great question to start with! Most mornings, we begin by connecting to our Higher Source—The Creator, whom we refer to as Yahweh. This time is sacred and includes prayer, meditation, and devotional study. Sometimes we share that space together, but more often it’s personal. It’s also a moment to align with our higher self and center our thoughts for the day.

After that, I (Racquel) usually move into a time of deep thinking and writing, while Jermaine focuses on personal research. I’ve found that my creativity flows most freely in the early morning, especially after time spent in devotion and self-connection.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Absolutely! My name is Racquel Domonique, and alongside Jermaine, we co-lead Marriage Funshop—a relationship-enriching experience designed to help couples reconnect, grow, and have fun while doing it. Our brand is built around the idea that marriage should be a space of joy, healing, and partnership, not just survival, but true connection.

What makes Marriage Funshop unique is that we combine biblical wisdom with real-life tools in a relaxed, interactive atmosphere. It’s not your typical retreat—it’s more like a “relationship recharge” with laughter, honest conversations, and moments that truly matter. Our story is rooted in our own journey of learning, unlearning, and growing together, and now we get to share those lessons with other couples who want more than just “getting by”, they want to thrive and do so with every consecutive moment that passes.

Right now, we have expanded the Funshop experience through virtual retreats known as the VMR (Virtual Marriage Retreat), creative content for couples, a virtual magazine set to be published in September this year and even a marriage workbook to keep the momentum going long after the event ends. Whether you’re newly married or seasoned in love, we provide multiple resources to facilitate growth because we believe there’s always a new way to grow together.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who taught you the most about work?
Racquel: I would have to say my mother, the late Rev. Dr. Cynthia Hawthorne Reid. She was the definition of resilience. While raising a large family—and when you read my book, A Pot and A Prayer, you know I had a lot of siblings. She also opened her heart and home to many other young people in our community. Despite the demands, she still managed to run a side business and keep everything in motion. Watching her juggle motherhood, entrepreneurship, and service with such strength and grace taught me the true meaning of work ethic, perseverance, and purpose-driven hustle.

Jermaine: My grandfather, without a doubt. He was a man of strong, honest work ethic—a true leader who served his community with humility and heart. Papa (James Barnes), as I affectionately called him, was my first mentor. I went practically everywhere with him as a young boy into early teenage years. He showed me what it means to work diligently, lead by example, and serve others selflessly. His life was a quiet but powerful reflection of integrity, responsibility, and purpose.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Ahh [sigh]… I would definitely say: Learn first and foremost to connect with the Creator of all things. That relationship will ground you when everything else feels uncertain. Learn the art of discipline—it will protect your time, your energy, and your purpose. Learn to forgive quickly, for your own peace. And don’t accept everything that’s handed to you—only receive what comes from wise counsel and aligns with truth. You are more powerful than you know, and your softness is not weakness. Stay grounded, stay open, and stay true.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
In a world where everything is powered electronically, it’s easy to become artificial. Social media often glamorizes life in ways that can distort reality. So, while what you see of us in the public eye is certainly a part of who we are, it’s not the whole story—not even half. The real “us” goes much deeper.

To truly know us, you’d have to connect with us in person. That’s where the fuller picture comes through—the layers of faith, vulnerability, laughter, quiet strength, and deep purpose that aren’t always visible online. Public platforms show glimpses, but presence reveals essence. We are intentional about staying rooted in who we are behind the scenes so that the version you see never strays too far from the truth—but trust, there’s so much more beneath the surface.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. If you laid down your name, role, and possessions—what would remain?
Definitely integrity. That’s what would remain, because those external things—name, role, possessions—don’t define us, despite what society has engineered us to believe. According to the greatest book ever written, it does not profit us to gain the whole world and lose our soul?

So while titles and things may have their place, they’re minute—minuscule—compared to the abundance of true character. Who we are at our core, when everything else is stripped away, is what matters most. That’s the part that lives on, impacts others, and reflects the image of God our Creator.
