We recently had the chance to connect with Mariana Darzi and have shared our conversation below.
Good morning Mariana, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
The first 90 minutes of my day consist of me waking up, rolling in bed for a few minutes, getting up, making my breakfast and packing my lunch for the day, getting dressed, playing with my dog for a bit, doing my skin care and brushing my teeth, driving to work and making my coffee once I get to work. I love my morning routine, makes me feel like my day started with the right foot!
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Mariana, I was born and raised in Brazil but I’ve been living in Florida since 2018. I started my food page during the 2020 Covid Pandemic, first it was only home recipes I was trying while on lockdown, then I started going to restaurants and posting my reviews. I’ve always loved food and trying new things, and having a page where I can share my passion for food is amazing, I’ve become a reference for my friends, I’m like this restaurant connoisseur, and I absolutely love it, they text me whenever they need somewhere new to go, I’ll hit them with a few different spots and it makes me so happy knowing they liked the place I suggested.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who taught you the most about work?
My father. Growing up he was the one who worked, and I’d go to his job with him, I’d watch him spend hours doing his job and all his employees loved it, that made me have this view of “work” where you can have such a good relationship with employees, be a hard worker and still have a life, if that makes sense. Watching my dad work hard to provide everything for us made me want to do the same, work hard so I could have a successful future.
Do you remember a time someone truly listened to you?
My younger sister never really liked going to school, doing homework and waking up early, I was the complete opposite, but not enough to be the role model for her, and once she got to her senior year in High School she wanted to do online school, which I knew it was a mistake because she wouldn’t do her work at home, so she’d never graduate. I graduated in 2020, covid year, so I had a youtube graduation, no prom, no grad bash, all the cool senior things were gone because of the pandemic, and my sister had the opportunity to experience all of that, but she wanted to throw it all away just because she didn’t like school. It took me a while but after long talks with her, lots of crying I made her listen to me, she studied, she got grades good enough for her to graduate and she walked the stage to get her diploma, that made me so happy, to know she listened to me and did the right thing.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes, 100%. This is one of the thing I love most about myself, I don’t have different versions of myself, what you see at home, around close friends, it’s what you’ll see in public, I’m always myself.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
I can only do something if I’ll give my best, I’ll never try to do something knowing I won’t be giving my best. I’m a perfectionist in the best way possible, I do everything so I can look at it and be proud of what I did, I praise myself so no one else has to.
