Today we’d like to introduce you to Larry Greenberg.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started doing magic as a hobby when I was 8 years old and did my first paying show at 12. Throughout school, it was my greatest passion, with every free moment spent studying and practicing sleight of hand. By the time I attended Rutgers University, I was working every weekend. After spending a year performing in Japan, I returned home and built my business in the NY/NJ area. I relocated to South Florida 5 years ago and currently perform primarily at private parties and corporate special events. I’m grateful to have been able to entertain some of the largest organizations and most famous celebrities in the world while making a living doing what I love.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Making a living as a full-time entertainer is never a smooth road and has been full of ups and downs. In addition to being a performer, and making sure that I have an act people will enjoy, I’ve also had to learn to be good at sales, marketing, advertising, accounting, and administrative work. I’m now able to delegate some of these responsibilities, but one of the biggest challenges to being in “show business” is forgetting that the business is equally (if not more) important as the show. In addition, to make it as an entertainer and retain my sanity, I’ve learned to not take anything personally. It’s much easier said than done, especially since I am the product, but nonetheless one of the most important lessons I’ve learned throughout my career.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Larry Greenberg – Magician. Hypnotist. Mentalist story. Tell us more about the business.
I am a magician, hypnotist and mentalist who performs at high-end private parties and corporate special events. I perform several different acts including, walk-around close-up magic and mind-reading, where I entertain in small groups and everything happens right in your own hands and under your nose. I also offer a magic and mentalism stage show, as well as a comedy hypnosis show. During the hypnosis show, volunteers come up on stage, get hypnotized and go on fun journeys.
While the stage shows are a blast from beginning to end, I’m most proud of the fact that they are clean, appropriate, and guaranteed not to offend. Embarrassing volunteers for the sake of a laugh is not my style and my clients wouldn’t have me back year after year if I was offensive or unprofessional. In addition, I customize material based on my clients’ needs, so I’m able to provide some truly unique and one-of-a-kind material for your guests.
I have fun for a living, but also take my job very seriously. I pride myself on being one of the most reliable and easy to work with entertainers in the industry.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I’ve been very lucky in that I was born and raised by two very supportive and loving parents. They never tried to convince me to do anything else for a living, have provided total unconditional love and support and never said no when I said, “Pick a card, any card.”
