Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniela DressUcan.
Daniela, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I was born in Milano, which is the capital of fashion. I always loved fashion and since when I was a child, I’d liked to create something regarding this world.
I studied fashion design always in Milan and then I had the possibility to work as a stylist for some Italian fashion magazines. I worked as well as a sales assistant and personal shopper for different luxury brands. Fashion for me is not only a job but a big passion: I love to research for different styles, different patterns, I love to know where everything that I work with come from…… overall the history of costume and his evolution.
When I decided to move here in the United States for love I decided as well to bring here all this magic.
Has it been a smooth road?
Every time you want to follow your dreams you face some obstacles. The most important things are not to give up. My father was an artist and he taught me how to be creative starting from the simplest things: my dolls’ house was made with boxes and hand painted. When he died he gave me the strength to follow my dreams.
I paid for my studies by myself. With my moving the obstacles that I had were to handle with a new language, new culture and new environment but despite everything I have always worked hard.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into your business story. Tell us more about the business.
Right now my job is personal shopper and stylist. I have a project about creating my own brand, made in Italy, and transfer it to Miami. In the meanwhile I am working on my blog to let people know myself and what I like.
The logo DressUcan was born exactly from this concept: to be inspired by the luxury fashion and recreate the same style with a low budget so that everybody can fit it. “If you want, you can! Yes, dress you can”.
What do you feel are the biggest barriers today to female leadership, in your industry or generally?
I think that, even though women reached a lot of goals, we have still a lot to do in front of us.
