Today we’d like to introduce you to Luz Acosta.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Luz. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Since I started working at hospitals and nursing homes, I realized my favorite thing to do is help people in any way I can. When I saw people who were hurt, I always had the urge to help them. Unfortunately, when you work in hospitals or nursing homes, you can’t focus on one person at a time. That was when massage classes caught my attention. After I researched deeper into the world of massages, I found out there was a type of massage called a medical massage, which is what I now do.
After I finished school in the Oregon school of massage in 2009, I started working with chiropractors and physical therapist. After I had worked with them for 4 years, I felt I could start my own business, L.A. massage by design and since that day that I started my own business. During this time, I have started leaning towards post-surgical massages. I started noticing there was a lot of misinformation and I want to change that. I always look forward to guiding my patients through their recovery and making sure they have the most optimal recovery possible. With this, I decided to put my knowledge into the market and spent all of 2017 preparing our patented garment, Lucy Acosta lipofajas (post-surgical garment), scheduled to release in summer 2018.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My first struggle was I was not a resident and my English wasn’t exactly on par. I also didn’t have a big budget and I am still to this day the only person that currently does massages at my spa. Since I didn’t have the budget to pay for advertisement, all my publicity came from recommendations, which led to a slow start. However, I pushed through the 7 years and got to where I am now and L.A. massage even won 4 awards in a row in the Coral Spring’s business hall of fame for the best massage place.
la massage by design – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
My specialty is medical massage, whether it be cosmetic or medical. We specialize in trigger point therapy and post-surgical massages. We are most proud of our services that help ensure our patient’s a smooth recovery from their surgeries. We are very personal and we like to familiarize ourselves with our customers and their schedules to build our schedule around our patient’s needs as much as possible.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Our proudest moments have been the awards we have won 4 years in a row and our own garment company launch, Lucy Acosta lipofajas.
