Meet Kristin Pelletier of Blue Truck Productions in Fort Lauderdale

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristin Pelletier.

Kristin, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today. My original dream was to be an actress. Knowing that the road to Hollywood can be a long and winding route, my mother encouraged me to have a back-up plan; to pursue an educational path that would give me tangible, marketable skills. I chose a degree path in Media Communications because it would lead me into a complimentary field. I would learn the behind-the-scenes and that would make me a better actress. In college, after being cast so many times as the actress, I began to realize my passion was not being the one who played out the story, but the one who wrote it, created it, directed it and made it come to fruition. I figured, being a producer/director, I could always cast myself in a role, if I got the itch to be in front of the camera.

Has it been a smooth road? I was a divorced, single mother at a very young age I worked a lot of various sales and marketing “jobs” before making the decision to go to college and pursue a “career.” Once I made the commitment to fully pursue something that really interested me, it’s as if the road became smoother and doors began to open. I knew I was on the right path, in this case by pursuing my desire to be an actress. That dream, ultimately lead me to my real passion and career in writing and producing content. During my final semester of college, I was offered an immediate job at Westcott Communications a private television network where I was participating in an internship (a requirement for my degree). Of course, it was tempting to take the job because I was afraid if I turned down the opportunity it would not come around again but I was committed to finishing what I started (an ethic I still live by). I explained this to my supervisor at Westcott and he said, “Come back after you graduate. You’ll have a job here.” What I learned from this experience is that if you follow your heart’s desires, they will lead you in the right direction. I can honestly say that from the moment I graduated to this moment, I have always loved my work.

I worked for Westcott Communications for just a few years before my entrepreneurial spirit took over. With my background in sales and marketing, coupled with my skills as a writer and producer, I joined forces with a business partner who also specialized in marketing and public relations. Together, we founded a full-service boutique advertising agency. Interestingly, Westcott Communications and their subsidiaries became some of our first and long-term clients.

Of course, we had struggles along the way but my philosophy is “What can I learn from this?” I think when you look at a struggle from that perspective, you focus and develop solutions that allow you to learn and grow and get to the other side of the struggle much more expeditiously.

With this as a guiding principal, we operated a very successful agency for over 15 years, until my business partner’s life and mine took us to opposite coasts. We made the decision to sell the agency. She would move to California and semi-retire. I would move to Florida and form a new production company (Blue Truck®) specializing in video marketing and production with a focus on developing original content for corporate and entertainment clients.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Blue Truck Productions – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others. At Blue Truck® we are passionate about helping our clients gain a competitive advantage by leveraging the power of video and digital content. We understand that the number one reason companies choose to invest in video marketing is to generate revenue.

Video is an exceptionally effective and efficient marketing vehicle that enables companies to share their unique stories with the world, build brand equity and accelerate business.

Blue Truck’s custom films are designed with one key purpose in mind: To make your brand memorable.

As a company, I am proud to be able to assist other entrepreneurs in telling their stories, building their brands and growing their businesses.

Sometimes, an outside perspective of your business is just what you need. Clients are often too close to the forest to see the trees. They’re busy running day to day operations. They need an extra set of eyes and hands. We bring the outside perspective and the extra support and skillset to implement key marketing initiatives. It is one of my favorite moments when after learning about a client’s business, I write a concept or script and the client tells me that I’ve nailed it. They’re often surprised by how quickly our team grasps their business and crafts its messaging in a creative way. It makes me proud when they are proud of the end product. I can literally see and sense the relief that a client feels by having a dedicated team take over the video marketing and production.

I believe what sets us apart from other production companies is our marketing expertise. Our writers and producers have extensive backgrounds in marketing, advertising and public relations, which makes us uniquely qualified to develop content that is congruent with brand and sales strategy. We bring this unique perspective to every project with an eye on developing content that makes sense for the client’s budget and business goals.

Many production companies expect the client to know exactly what they want, provide a script and they just need to shoot and edit. In my experience, clients only have a vague idea of what they want (a commercial, a marketing video, an explainer video, etc.). Clients don’t have the time to fully develop the idea, let alone the expertise and production resources to see that project to fruition. That’s our specialty. The client’s specialty is altogether different.

It’s our joy and responsibility at Blue Truck to consult and guide a client through the content development process from a big picture perspective. Then we manage all the details so they don’t have to. From conceptualizing the look of the video to writing the script(s), casting, filming, graphics, music, media management, editing, etc. etc. Our purpose is to bring the messages to life using the sight, sound and motion of video, and deliver a finished master – on time and on budget.

What clients say they like about working with Blue Truck is our ability to work in autonomy, as a natural extension of their existing brand/marketing teams or in partnership with their agency and just get the job done. Moreover, a lot of our clients don’t have a dedicated marketing team or agency. In some cases, it’s just the business owners and their employees who all have other responsibilities. In either case, we serve as a client’s dedicated content development team.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least? I love people and I love sunshine. That’s what I like best about our city. It has the best of both. I enjoy the diversity of our community made up of locals and visitors from all over the world. Yet, Fort Lauderdale feels like a small town. I often run into someone I know wherever I go. It’s a very social community with a collective philanthropic mindset, so there is always something to do and most often it is going to benefit a non-profit organization. If you wanted to, you could likely attend a charity or cause-based event every day of the week. By being involved in the social scene around South Florida, you get to meet the best people, doing their best to help others and the sun is most often shining. It’s a win-win-win.

Personally, I have found a lot of joy, friendship and sense of contribution by supporting and being involved in organizations such as: Winterfest Boat Parade; Symphony of the Americas; Pinion (benefitting Special Olympics); Jessica Junes Children’s Cancer Foundation; Glamathon (benefitting local women with breast cancer); Lighthouse of Broward County (a resource for the visually impaired); among others.
