Meet Rebecca Francois of Curls by Bec

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rebecca Francois

Hi Rebecca, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
It started with my mom not knowing how to do my hair. I took matters into my own hands and started doing my own then family and friends started asking me to do theirs as well, but at that time I was only doing braids and sew-ins. Fast forward to the pandemic year 2021 I was laid off from a job where I was employed for 8 years. I was lost we were in uncharted waters and I didn’t know what direction the world was going in so I decide to bet on myself and do something that no one could take from me and I enrolled into cosmetology school at Sheridan Technique College which was mostly online and going in for face to face for like 2 days out of the week due to the pandemic. While attending class my instructor advised us the students to pick a niche or specialty and I decided to go with curls because i realized that there is a huge need for stylist that understand how to work with natural curly/coily hair. Since then I’ve taken many courses and invested in my education to be able to provide not only a great service but also the education on how my clients can care for their own hair at home, but this is only the beginning im still cooking.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road has not always been smooth but we learn great lessons from making mistakes. My biggest struggle at first was my confidence which I didn’t have any because I was intially scared to cut hair but with time and making mistakes my confidence has come in. I’m still learning tho.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Im a multi-textured curly hair specialist. Known for cutting, styling, coloring and treating curly hair of all types. I’m proud of the fact that I can help women like myself grow to love and care for their natural curly hair.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Don’t be afraid to invest in your education this is a forever evolving industry. Connect with people who are doing the things you want to do.
