Meet Leslie Glickman of Yoga Journey

Today we’d like to introduce you to Leslie Glickman.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
After relocating to Florida in 1990 and marrying my soulmate, Andy, I made a career change from the advertising industry to owning an extremely successful South Florida fitness center. After 13 years in fitness, together we opened two physical therapy clinics and eventually, our current Yoga Studio, Yoga Journey.

Coming from an athletic and dance background, I naturally gravitated to the physical practice of yoga but also embraced the philosophy of living a yoga lifestyle. I passionately threw myself into the study of all things yoga. This was life changing for me, as I studied with some of the greatest teachers and learned how powerful the practice of yoga can be for everyone. It is the perfect balance of mind, body and spirit that will transform your life whether you want it to or not.

Taking what I had learned from my teachers, I worked on developing a unique style of teaching that is safe, intelligent and creative, while also being challenging for my students physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.

My goal is to inspire my students to take their yoga experience off the mat and into their lives. I love working with all levels of students whether new to the practice or aspiring to become a teacher. My studio is a teaching facility where I have trained almost 200 teachers, who are now teaching yoga all over the world.

Has it been a smooth road?
I am not sure if “smooth” is the right word for this journey. I would say that “slow and steady wins the race”. I have been teaching and practicing yoga for almost 25 years. Back then, we lacked the resources that are available today. I had to travel to be with skilled and experienced teachers and yoga was not as popular in South Florida back in the nineties. The hardest thing for me was having no real community, so I created one! This has been my life’s work and now South Florida has a thriving and vibrant yoga community with skilled and experienced teachers. I couldn’t be prouder to be part of it.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Yoga Journey is the embodiment of the dreams, intentions and hard work put in each day by my husband, myself, our amazing staff, as well as the many committed students that come to practice with us. Our core values are community, accessibility and education. Sharing yoga has been my passion and making it accessible is my mission. As a training facility, I seek to elevate the level of education for my students, teachers and the whole yoga community. We are always looking for new and special ways to share all aspects of yoga with everyone who seeks it. Our offerings include: daily classes, teacher trainings, continuing education workshops, community classes, worldwide and local retreats, video streaming to a global community as well as a host of special events. Our biggest event happens every year on New Years Day with over 2,000 people in attendance coming together as a community to practice yoga for FREE.

Yoga Journey studio offers a simple pricing structure that reflects our belief that large money and time commitments are not necessary to provide great value and an amazing yoga experience. Everyone participates in the experience provided by our amazing group of teachers for the same very fair price of $10 per class. No other studio in our area has this model and we are happy to make our classes cost effective for anyone who wants to join us. Packages of 10 or 20 are available at $10/class just for convenience.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I would say South Florida in general, is a great place for any business because of the diversity of the people who gravitate here from all over the world. Yoga is a multi-billion dollar business that continues to grow and South Florida is quickly becoming a leader in the industry.

There may be other markets in the country that are more established, but we’re at the cusp of building a strong, flourishing community. Larger yoga influencers like Wanderlust and Yoga Journal have chosen South Florida as a venue for their events; this speaks volumes to what is taking place right now.
