Conversations with Nadine Prosper

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nadine Prosper

Hi Nadine, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
The first modality which had a deep impact on my life was discovering yoga almost 30 years ago. It taught me to breathe and bring my awareness within and stay focused. Whenever I was struggling with any challenges in life, I would always step on my mat. My practice really helped me stay balanced while working in the corporate world working in a very fast paced environment. It’s only years later that I decided to do a yoga teacher training and I haven’t looked back since. I now teach in yoga studios, private sessions and to Senior Citizens.

In 2016 I stumbled upon Sound Healing while shopping at a store (Ten Thousand Villages) someone struck a Tibetan bowl in the store, and the vibrations of the instrument rippled through me instantly providing me with a sense of calm. I immediately asked the store employee what that sound was and she told me it was a Tibetan bowl and that if I enjoyed those few seconds that I should look into receiving a Sound Bath. After I left the store I immediately searched for a Sound Bath in my area and signed up for a session at a yoga studio. That 1 hour session shifted something within me, allowing me to tap into my creativity (which had been blocked for many years). I was able to paint a series of paintings after the session and the creativity just kept flowing. I realized that I felt more rested after that 1 hour session than I usually do after a full night of sleep. This led me to purchase Tibetan bowls for my own personal use to help myself unwind after a stressful day at work. At the time my son was young and suffered from anxiety attacks and when I would play the bowls in the house, I would notice a change in his breathing patterns and a shift in his behavior. The fidgeting would stop and even though he wasn’t laying down, just the sound frequencies would have a noticeable impact on him. This struck my curiosity to learn more about Sound Healing so that I could help my son and myself at the same time.

When the pandemic hit and everything shut down, I used the opportunity to become attuned to Reiki and eventually became a Reiki Master Teacher, I dived deeper into yoga and formally studied Sound Healing.

This led me on a path of self healing and I uncovered a lot of stored trauma in my body which led me to learn more about trauma. It was an uncomfortable period of time but I learned so much about myself through the journey.

After studying Sound Healing, I did a one year internship under one of my teachers that led me to do large group Sound Healing sessions throughout the city which I really enjoyed. There is something very powerful about seeing people gather in community to work on themselves, putting down their armor and allowing themselves to be vulnerable and courageous at the same time. Through these sessions I realized that the fact that I was able to feel energy, it allowed me to bring people on a deeper journey through the Sound Healing sessions. I realized that a big part of creating a session is being able to energetically hold space for people to allow them to feel safe to surrender to the process.

Today, I teach yoga, I teach Sound Healing, I offer group Sound Baths throughout the city, I do private sessions, corporate sessions and I really love what I do.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, it has not always been a smooth road. As you do this work, it will definitely bring up any unresolved issues within you like abandonment issues, self doubt, imposter syndrome etc. Especially in the beginning when you are first starting out and you have to build your clientele. One thing that I quickly learned is that you cannot rely on your friends and family to support your events and you have to get comfortable by putting yourself out there. You have to be comfortable with the fact, that at first you will host events and no one will show up but you have to keep on showing up without letting your ego get in the way.

That is where self healing becomes very important. In order to hold space for others, you need to be fully present and self aware. Your heart has to be open and in order to have an open heart, you need to heal from past experiences, letting go of fear and self sabotage.

Like they say, you can’t pour from an empty cup so your spiritual hygiene becomes a way of life. You have to practice what you preach, otherwise you will end up feeling depleted. Yoga not only happens on your mat, but it is applied in your day to day life. There were days where I questioned myself asking myself if this is my path but seeing the results and growth in so many of my students, gives me the confirmation that this is what I was meant to do.

One thing that people don’t realize is all the work that happens behind the scenes. When creating an event, you have to take care of marketing, promoting, and creating content. Your basically a one woman show and it takes a lot of discipline to stay on top of things to be able to have a sustainable practice. That is where my background in the corporate world came in handy.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a Sound Healing practitioner/Teacher, Yoga Teacher, Reiki Master Teacher, Life Coach. I am also an artist and I paint abstract paintings and I am a Silversmith and I create jewelry.

Currently I am mostly known for my Sound Healing sessions and teaching yoga and that has been my main focus in the last years aside from being a Mom to my amazing 14 year old son.

I specialize in working with Mom’s to help them find balance in their lives. As moms we do so much for others but we tend to neglect ourselves and my goal is to help change this pattern giving women permission to take care of themselves without the guilt. I show people how to slow down, through Sound Healing sessions and use the breath to bring the body back into harmony. In my yoga classes, we don’t have to do crazy poses (asanas) but simply breathing consciously will create a shift in the body and the mind. I teach people things that they can take off the mat and into their daily lives.

I am most proud about following my intuition about leaving the corporate world in order to be more present in my son’s life. One thing that I learned is that we cannot get time back and I refused to miss out on my son’s life like my parents did when I was growing up. I refused to miss out on all the milestones in his life. Now I have the flexibility to pick him up from school, attend his after school activities and build those precious moments. When I did this, I didn’t have a plan, but through hard work, consistently showing up and discipline, I made it work.

What sets me apart is that I have been in the corporate world rat race myself for 20 years so I know how it feels to be in that environment. Feeling lost, feeling burnt out, the anxiety, being completely dissociated from your body and being on autopilot all the time. This helps me create a safe welcoming environment for people to feel safe and release, and help them to regulate their nervous system. I speak in a way that they can relate to.

I didn’t know how much I needed Sound Healing in my life until I experienced it and I love helping others and being of service so it is a great fit for me.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
There are so many Sound Healers and yoga teachers out there now but I am really happy because several years ago Sound Healing was very foreign to many that people were reluctant to try it. Social media and reality TV has really helped bring awareness to the modality and many people are curious and open to experiencing it now.

I feel that in the next 5-10 we will see a lot more yoga and sound healing being incorporated into the corporate world spaces and schools to help employees and students find balance and ease stress levels. We are already seeing insurance companies and certain doctors recommending the modality to their clients.

Sound Healing is a non-invasive way to really help people find relaxation and release stress and tension and if everyone would experience it, there would be more peace in this world.
