Today we’d like to introduce you to Isabel Vera Fernandez
Isabel, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My life quite literally began in New Jersey where I later moved over to Florida with family around 2007. Since I was young I always thought, “I am going to be a lawyer.” There was never really a moment where I knew I wanted to become a lawyer but my mother was a big source behind the motivation that led to that path. I graduated college from the University of Central Florida and took a gap year after college before I started my law degree program with St. Thomas University School of Law in Miami, Florida. Since becoming an attorney in 2019, I always had a feeling and idea that I wanted to be my own boss one day. That idea and goal did not become a reality until mid-2024 when life presented an opportunity to do so. I found myself in the midst of a perfect storm, sort of speak. Now, I am in the process of starting my own law firm dedicated to serving all of South Florida when they find themselves injured and in need of help. In addition to my professional career, photography has always been something that I have held on to since college. I started shooting self-portraits of myself during Covid and really enjoyed the process of creating and using my imagination to shoot myself in different ways. The process also helped strengthen the joy I once had when I was shooting photography just for fun. I began taking my social media presence a little more seriously and would post my makeup photography, fashionable outfit of the day or different ways to style clothing videos and began receiving requests from brands to partner or collaborate with them. Since having collaborated with some brands that I absolutely love like Walmart, Target, Juicy Couture, and more, my love for creation only ignited further and now I have the best of both worlds with my professional career as an attorney and also a content creator. With my love for content creation, I hope to flourish those skills with my business and continue to see where it can take me in terms of working with brands.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Life is definitely not easy and there are always obstacles you are going to find sooner or later on your journey anywhere! In terms of starting my own business and law firm, there is so much information you need to research and learn when planning, establishing, and finalizing your own law firm. I also don’t have anybody in my family or group of friends or colleagues that has started their own law firm or business, so not having someone to bounce back questions is an obstacle. Every state also has different requirements on how one qualified and in good standing with the Florida Bar can start their own practice, so researching is critical when going down a solo practitioner path. Aside from the literal requirements of starting your own business, there’s also some self-doubt that creeps in whenever you are about to start something new. Pushing all those feelings of thinking I may not be good enough or ready aside, I am very excited and optimistic of the opportunities that will come with this new business venture. I know that there are always solutions, one way or another, that come after finding a problem along the journey and it takes time, patience and determination to keep going and finding a way!
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Vera Fernandez Law, PLLC?
My law practice is called Vera Fernandez Law, PLLC and serves all of South Florida, which includes Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade County. I specialize in Personal Injury which commonly includes car accidents, accidents wherein you may be a driver or passenger in an Uber or Lyft, slip and falls or trip and falls, premise liability accidents and dog bite injuries. My ideal clients are those injured from an accident caused by someone or a business being negligent in their actions: i.e, a driver rear-ending a vehicle you are in as either a driver or passenger and causing injuries, a customer shopping and slipping on a wet liquid substance or slipping on a faulty floor in a store, etc. Throughout my career and experience as an attorney, my former clients have always told me that I am a compassionate and dedicated person. I take pride in the way I communicate, explain and litigate a matter or case. I strive to always put my best foot forward and persevere for my clients and obtain the best outcome. As a solo practitioner, communication is key with me so I aim to be readily available for my clientele at a moment’s notice, which can be a problem for other attorneys. I have been able to and will continue to provide valuable information and legal services to my past, current and future clients so that they can bounce back as best they can after a terrible situation.
How do you think about happiness?
Spending time with my husband + dog, family and friends makes me the happiest. I also love food, so being a regular at my favorite local restaurants and trying new restaurants and food halls always brings a smile to my face and belly! Music is also a form of happiness for me. Having a great song playing in the background in some of your best memories or around those you love will always bring joy when you hear that song again. Being outdoors walking, having a picnic, or sitting on the sand in front of the ocean makes me happy. It’s good for the soul to be outside and feel the ocean breeze or wind in your hair or face, feel the sun heat your skin, feel the rain trickle down your head… there’s happiness to that. Also can’t forget about traveling! I love and feel a great sense of joy when I am traveling with family or my husband to new destinations or places we go back to because we love so much! I also can’t forget about the happiness I feel when I have helped others while in my role as attorney. Being able to achieve the maximum value or outcome for a client and seeing how happy and elated my clients are after that always makes me happy.
