Today we’d like to introduce you to Debbie Rotman
Hi Debbie, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I studied photography at the School of Visual Arts in New York. I moved back to south Florida after graduating in 2012 and interned with several different photographs in Miami before securing a position as a staff photographer. I worked as a staff photographer for a few different companies before starting my own business in 2020. I now run my commercial product photography business full time from my fully-equipped home studio in Boca Raton!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Back in 2020, I was furloughed from my staff photographer job due to the pandemic. With the uncertainty of the job market and all of the free time I had, I decided to make the most of the situation and start my own business from home. My wife and I worked together to build my website, equip my studio and of course, gain clients. There were a lot of bumps along the way, as you can expect with any startup. From figuring out contracts and licenses to buying the right gear and landing clients, there was a definite learning curve. But after 4 years of being in business, I’ve grown exponentially.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in creating innovative and custom brand photography. I work with my clients to bring their visions to life. I love creating custom campaigns tailored specifically to each brand’s needs. I offer e-commerce photography for marketplace listings (such as Amazon, Target, Walmart etc) as well as in-studio creative shoots, and on location lifestyle shoots (with or without models). I also offer stop motion videos—a super fun way for clients to engage with their audience.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
Within the next 5 years I plan to move out of my home office and into a larger studio space. I plan to build a dedicated studio space, a test kitchen to further elevate my food photography, and an office for post production work. On days I don’t have shoots scheduled, I plan to rent the space to other photographers in the area!
