Daily Inspiration: Meet Simone Deacon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Simone Deacon

Hi Simone, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Even from a young age, I was engulfed in Cinema. My parents bought me the one thing that would ignite my passion for filmmaking….a DVD player! The beautiful thing about DVDs was that while you still had the movie, some extra perks like the behind-the-scenes option. I found myself mesmerized by the process of how a film was made, specifically the behind-the-scenes of Jim Carrey’s The Grinch. Watching Ron Howard yell action, and this whole world unfolded! It was magic!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s not easy being a young filmmaker. I’ve faced numerous challenges such as not having the right equipment and having to make do with handmade ones. Casting actors for a film with no pay added to the struggle. Breaking into the film industry was tough, but I realized the importance of connections. Finding my voice was crucial too, as it allowed me to take risks and learn from my experiences.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am an avid film enthusiast from Miami, Florida, who enjoys incorporating psychology and social commentary into my work. I believe that weaving social commentary into my films enables me to convey my perspectives on various issues in a more imaginative way. In my latest short film, “The Storyteller,” I explore the captivating tale of a young man and an unforgettable encounter. I am extremely excited to be working on this film! We have cast four talented young actors from the Arthur and Polly Mays Conservatory of The Arts (my alma mater!) and I can’t wait to see our vision come to life.

What are your plans for the future?
I see myself as a multifaceted individual with a deep passion for various forms of art. I find it impossible to limit myself to just one artistic pursuit. My future plans involve sharing my expertise in film and theater with underprivileged communities while continuing to produce compelling films. Following a challenge from a teacher during my graduation last year, I am determined to achieve an EGOT status before turning thirty, and I am committed to making that a reality.
