Today we’d like to introduce you to Lynette Meglio.
Hi Lynette, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
After relocating to Florida as an empty nester, I had the opportunity to start a new chapter in my life. I knew I did not want to work 9-5 in an office environment. Been there, done that. I spent over 20 years in the digital advertising industry, first at Viacom in NYC, then at AOL and Time Warner Cable in Northern Virginia. Every position I held was an amazing learning experience and brought me to the place I am now.
My husband spent 30+ years franchising with several food brands and was also ready for something new. After a lot of conversations, we decided to combine our personal and professional skills, and work together. We researched several franchise options and then found Sugar Sugar™, a clean beauty studio specializing in *SUGAR * SPRAY * SKIN*. All products and services, including facials and spray tans are organic, vegan, and cruelty free. The franchise was created in Scottsdale, AZ by Aimee Blake. Although the beauty industry was new to us, we knew our combined background would be an asset to opening a new franchise. At 56 years old I even went to school for my esthetician license!
We were drawn to the organic and clean services they offered and their proprietary skincare line, Skin from Scratch™. The first time I felt the sugar on my skin it was amazing! This sugaring hair removal method actually dates back to Cleopatra, but for some reason the chemical hot wax method has been the most common form of hair removal in the United States. When people try sugaring they never go back to waxing! Sugar is made from sugar, lemon and water- you can actually eat it! It’s never hot, only adheres to your hair and dead skin cells, NOT healthy skin, so it’s less painful. It’s a natural exfoliant and you can even spray tan immediately after your sugaring appointment. Yes, our spray tans are organic and vegan too!
Another reason why we chose Sugar Sugar™ is their extensive training. New estheticians complete 40 hours of mandatory training before they work on clients. They know our proprietary products, ingredients, sugaring methods, and facial protocols inside and out, in order to provide exemplary service that provides results.
Our first location opened in February 2024, in Wellington and we are looking forward to selling franchise locations from Miami to Orlando, along the east coast of Florida.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Oh no, it has not been a smooth road. I think any small business owner would agree. Owning a business is not for the weak. Rent, payroll, and bills keep rolling in every month as you’re trying to grow your new business. It actually reminds me of when I started working at AOL during the early days of the internet. We would constantly say, ‘We were building the plane as it was flying’. Dealing with contractors, building departments, permitting, and licenses was all new to me. My project management skills kicked in, but it was all very difficult to manage. As a business owner you also have employees who are depending on you. It’s a very different feeling than being a manager at a big company.
Every day there is a new problem and you just figure out how to resolve it. However, Wellington has been the most amazing town to open a new business. The other local businesses, the Wellington Chamber of Commerce, and residents have been so supportive. I meet the most amazing people every day. They come in to get pampered and leave looking and feeling great! That’s the icing on the cake.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
We love collaborating with other local businesses, schools, and mom groups. We have at least 1-2 in person events at our location monthly. It’s important for people to socialize and get away from their phones. We also like to give back and donate our time to causes that are close to our heart. We recently supported the ‘Clear the Shelter’ campaign with the Women of Wellington to encourage people to adopt pets from local shelters. Sugar Sugar™ is also supporting Wellington Community High School with special deals for faculty and students during graduation month.
Our clients have become friends. We are so excited to get our franchise sales started so we can expand Sugar Sugar™ along the east coast of Florida. Stop by to say hi and to try our Comfort Sugaring™ method!
