Today we’d like to introduce you to Antti Karro.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
It all got started when we bought a new (used) car. This car is one of my favorite cars. So, the plan was to keep it looking as good as possible. So, I started cleaning and waxing it, but soon realized that wax is not really giving me the results I was looking for. And I started to look for ways to improve the look on my car. Found out that to make it look really good, I would have to polish it. Paint correction as we call it. Lucky for me, there is a company in Jupiter (Autogeek.net). Autogeek is your number one car care source for auto detailing supplies, car care products, car polishes, auto accessories, polishers and car detailing tools store. Also they have workshops, where you can learn how to use the tools and products. So, I started taking workshops and buying products. But, I only had one car. I was asking my buddies if I can polish their cars, because I was so excited with the results, I couldn’t wait to learn more. And before I knew, people started noticing my work and started recommending me. Once, I learned how to make these cars look better than they were new, I was faced with another problem. How to keep them like this. After lots of testing and dozens of different products, waxes, sealants and ceramic coatings. I found Gtechniq products. I liked the results and went through their schooling and became Gtechniq Accredited Detailer. So, I can use their professionals only line of products.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Yes and no. You can get to the certain level but there is always so much to learn. New products are coming to the market, new tools. So you have to keep up with it. But, it takes lot of testing. Not everything that comes out, is good or useful. And you really don’t know which ones are good or not so good. You find your main products and tools that will work 85% of the time. And then the rest is improvising. Ever car is new experience. You can’t start the next project and hope that it will be the same like it was with a last car. You always have to be alert. But it’s fun. I like cars and that makes a world of difference. It doesn’t feel like job. Yes, it can be very frustrating sometimes but so, is working on a job you hate.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about 561 Detailing – what should we know?
We specialize in paint polishing and corrections. I am known for creating mirror like finishes on cars.
New car prep, which means we use ceramic coatings and other products to protect your cars paint. These products protect your car from outside elements, like acid rain, bird droppings UV damage. I am most proud and thankful for people trusting me with their cars. One of the cars I worked on, is 1 of 7 cars ever built and costs 3.4 million dollars. Makes you feel good when people trust you like this.
What sets us apart… most people think that car detailing is wash and wax. What we do takes sometimes up to 40 hours. And that’s only polishing paint. Even brand new cars usually take 12 hours to finish. Most of our clients take care of their cars on their own but they are not able to get the paint to look it’s best. So, we will help with a paint and cover it with ceramic coating. And then, they can easily maintain their own car and have them looking at their best.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I am a car guy. I grew up watching my Dad race cars. I was racing go-carts when I was 8 years old. So, I have been around cars for a very long time. I can speak cars to other like minded car owners. I can understand their frustrations with their cars. And because, I like being around cars and like minded car owners, it was easy for me to get started. It never felt like work. It actually relaxes me. Second thing is my willingness to learn. Most people can get the basics, but they are not willing to push the limits. By continuing my education helps a lot.
