Today we’d like to introduce you to Janice Attia Kandel.
Janice, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
It all started when a family friend reached out to me and asked me have you ever designed a condo and of course I said, yes (when I actually never done it on my own) then he said, well you have now a new client. That was the moment, I decided to go on my own, and then one thing lead to the other and I started networking and getting more clients and expanding my horizons.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Not at all, I call it a learning experience. I think the biggest struggle is realizing what are your strengths and weaknesses. It was very important for my company to realize what I’m better at that way I can strengthen and focus on those qualities. At that moment you just have to be humble and realize there’s someone better than you and trying to work with them to make a strategic alliance.
For my company, it was very hard finding reliable contractors, and subcontractors for our client, unfortunately being a girl working with contractors sometimes is not the best situation.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about J ATTIA DESIGN – what should we know?
We are a boutique design firm, specializing in residential architecture and interior design serving Miami-Dade, Broward and the Palm Beaches. We are known for being a small company, everything is “one on one”, our clients are our first priority, being that said, we like getting to know in their own atmosphere that way we can achieve exactly what they are looking for.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Wow! There’s actually a lot of people that deserves credit.
First of all, my parents, from the moment I chose, I wanted to move to Florida, to the moment I realized it was time to open my own business, they have always cheer for me and had my back.
My husband, who is my personal business consultant (his job is also a business consultant) who gives me business guidance and advice all the time, but most important who’s there for me with a big smile after a tough day.
My very first clients, that gave me the opportunity to work with them, and even thou there were mistakes they still call me and refer me more clients.
All the architects, designers, engineers, general contractors, that have collaborated thought this process and make together with me a great time, without them we would not achieve our clients goals.
