Meet Nicole Gallamini

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Gallamini.

Nicole Gallamini

Hi Nicole, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
When I was a little kid, my parents involved me in different artistic pursuits. I used to draw a lot, it has always been a huge passion of mine. Additionally, I practiced ballet, tap, and flamenco for many years. That’s how I got into art and music, and eventually discovered costume design.

Later in high school, I became interested in electronic music and that’s when I discovered DJing and music production. It sparked something in me that felt right and magical and it got me obsessed. I used to come home every day from school to download tons of music and organize each song in different libraries. That’s when I knew I wanted to become a DJ. I started to become friends with music producers and that’s when my mind was blown because I saw how everything was done. Also, it was my first encounter with DAWs like FL Studio, Ableton, and Logic.

During high school, I used to visit Miami a lot and I was always looking for raves to go to and I got the opportunity to see most of my favorite DJs from that time. That’s when I fell in love with Miami so my dream was to move here and become who I aspired to be.

After graduating from high school in Venezuela, I moved to Miami to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design. Fashion was always something that I was interested in because it just made everything better. It made me feel confident and it has always been a way of expressing myself. If I have a good outfit on, I feel powerful. That’s how I felt when I was a kid during my dance presentations. So I wanted to study it deeply. On the other hand, music was always something that I was learning by myself with YouTube and with my friends so I decided to keep doing that at that moment.

During my last two years of college, a lot of opportunities started to come and my dreams started to look less like “dreams”. My first presentations as a DJ started to come and my first encounter with fashion styling (which is something I do actively today) as well. I also got to meet my mentor, who taught me a lot about DJing and got me under his wing for many years and still does today. Then, I graduated from fashion school and that same week, COVID struck.

It was a moment for a lot of realizations for me so I decided to push even more for my dreams. I was working at retail stores, doing styling and DJing all at the same time. I also started to take music production classes to become more familiar with music and understand how to make it. I already knew how to use Ableton but it was getting difficult for me to learn by myself so I wanted someone to teach me. It was a great moment for me because I got to discover my sound even more.

So today, all that hard work has paid off and I thank God that a lot of great opportunities have come my way. They have shown me that I’m on the right path and what I’m capable of. The best decision I could take was losing the fear of becoming who I wanted to be and trusting myself to do great things because thanks to that, I’m happy and I have grown as a person and as an artist. I have met a lot of beautiful and talented people along the way, people that I have learned a lot, whom I admire, and who have supported me as well as my family to become who I am today.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I think that being an artist is a weird road. Sometimes it’s smooth, sometimes it’s not. And that’s fine. Every moment is teaching us something and we have to be aware of it.

For me, the most difficult part is understanding that sometimes you’re not going to feel at your best creative self, sometimes you’re just tired or you just need to focus on something else and give what you are doing a small rest. It’s important to take a moment for yourself and reconnect so you can keep things flowing.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m mostly known for being a DJ but I also work as a fashion stylist and graphic designer. In fashion, I have worked with a lot of artists I admire thanks to music videos and it has opened my mind to how important it is for an artist to have an image and personality and what happens behind the camera.

It’s a lot of time and effort a whole team puts into making something a reality from the very beginning to the end. I have styled fashion shows, I have played music during a fashion show too and I have worked with different fashion brands during pop-up shows. In music, I would say III Points is my proudest accomplishment so far but I have done a lot of events I carry in my heart and that have been very important to me and in my career alongside recognized international/local talent and brands. This year I launched a party called “Élevé” which consists of combining rave and fashion and my goal with it is to make it a label one day and a clothing brand. Because one of my dreams is to do a fashion show, make the whole soundtrack for it, and then, have a huge rave for the afterparty.

I also had the opportunity this year to create an event with my best friends called “Company”. Our goal is to connect creatives and showcase our work. We had very special guests from the music industry who had the opportunity to educate and share what they do and how they got where they are now. It was very fulfilling and inspiring. I think that what sets you apart from others is just being yourself and how much energy and time you put into your dreams and projects to make them happen.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs, or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I’m currently reading The Creative Act by Rick Rubin. I try to read it little by little because it keeps me grounded in my art.

My favorite apps would say X (twitter lol) because it’s funny and also keeps me informed. Headspace which is a guided meditation app, Co-star – an astrology app, Spotify, and Bandcamp for music & use a lot of Roland Cloud and Native Instruments for music production.
