Meet Angel Corchado, El Jefe MMA in Boynton Beach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angel Corchado.

Angel, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started training in MMA in the fall of 2008. I had just dropped out of college and with no serious life goals or plans I decided to use my new free time to learn a new skill and stay in top physical shape. I used the last $100 I had to enroll in a local mma gym in back home in NYC.

From day one, I was hooked! I had no initial intentions to fight but my coaches at the time saw that I was seriously dedicated and offered me a chance to fight with only a few months of experience.

Fast forward 9 years later and here I am living and competing in South Florida. I have used the skills I have obtained from fighting and my passion for instructing to run my own private training business.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
“If it were easy, everyone would be world champion.”

Being a fighter isn’t all about hitting the gym everyday but also being able maintain a healthy personal life. The hardest thing for me was leaving my family in NYC and moving down to South Florida for a better opportunity to train and fight full-time.

Family for me has always been a driving force in keeping me motivated when I ever doubted myself and my career.

Please tell us about El Jefe MMA .
Outside of being a professional MMA fighter I specialize in instructing others in a private setting in self-defense, boxing, kickboxing and MMA.

My sessions take place in gym settings or outdoors in parks and beaches. I feel that I am able to create workouts that are challenging and fun. A typical session includes mitt workouts, grappling drills and live self-defense rounds. Most importantly, my clients always feel that they have learned something that will benefit them in that real world. Whether that be feeling more confidant, orchaving more energy to get through the day.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite memory as a kid was sitting around the TV with my family to watch boxing matches. Boxing played a major influence in driving me into fighting.
