Daily Inspiration: Meet Donelric Owens

Today we’d like to introduce you to Donelric Owens.

Donelric Owens

Hi Donelric, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
At the start of my college education, I majored in art, and because I love it so much I got into drawing. After a long 15 years of it, I wanted to get out of my comfort zone and have a passion for photography, which has fired off creative passion since.

I started with cosplay photography first out of the passion to highlight the importance of diversity, and then street photography to identify the shifts of implements happening in neighborhoods.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
For the road to be smooth, one must be able to smooth out the ruggedness. With that being said, It hasn’t been smooth. There were a ton of times when I just wanted to give up.

There were even times when I faced imposter syndrome. Sometimes though, it’s okay to find comfort by just being still. It gave me time to reassess a lot of things to get back into the consistency of my photography.

Thanks – So what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
As of now, I am a freelance photographer, and I specifically focus on cosplayers. However, I am more open to shooting other content such as weddings, products, etc.

I am more focused on going out shooting more street photography provided that I have such funds to film. Film has gotten expensive.

But I am very proud of how far I’ve come with my work. The thing that sets me apart from others is how whimsical and more diverse my work has become.

What do you think about happiness?
Things that make me happy simply is the ability to create. I say that because I love to be inspired to see a lot of artists that I can study from and I can apply to my style of work.

I can thank taking up a major in Art History, where I can appreciate to grasp the knowledge of artists, historians, and intricate periods throughout the world.
