Today we’d like to introduce you to Devin Vance.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Devin. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
After finishing college in 1999, I became a Financial Advisor in Boca Raton and was trading stocks. Unfortunately, when the “tech bubble” bursted in 2001, I found myself at a crossroad as to which direction I wanted to pursue to achieve career goals.
Thankfully, I was able to join my father’s marble polishing business at that time and was enthusiastic to create more customer growth and overall business improvements. This timed well with the Real Estate boom at that time, and soon after joining, our “family business” was at the cusp of this explosion of new home and commercial constructions and renovations.
I pursued further stone restoration education, stone finishing and protectant technologies, as well as environmentally safe procedures and tooling to keep us ahead of the newly growing competition. Our customer service, customer education, and professionalism helps separate us from the sea of others – and my personal knowledge and insight into natural stone and restoration has taken me around the world to help customers and properties in preserving and maintaining their natural stone.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Although we picked up much steam from 2001 through 2006, the Real Estate market’s crash in mid 2006 through 2009 definitely halted our momentum. We found ourselves trying to stay afloat with consumer spending drying up to unprecedented lows. Rather than downsize or closing our doors – we used this time to dive into Research and Development to plan for the future.
I attended stone restoration schools and trade shows around the US, and brought new products and technologies back to Florida to incorporate within our business model. We continued to sustain our business through these tough times and then finally started to regain momentum as the Fontainebleau Hotel in Miami Beach contracted us to restore over 15,000 square feet of pre-existing and new marble lobby flooring.
This was the beginning of our resurgence, and was also the spark that was needed to help acquire other landmark property customers, such as the Versace Mansion and the “Stone House” at the Deering Estate in Miami.
Classic Marble Restoration – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Our company is family-owned and operated for over 20 years to-date. We have the best team of marble polishing technicians – some of them who have been working with us since day 1! We specialize in the Restoration, Preservation, and Maintenance of all natural stone surfaces and terrazzo. From flooring to countertops to showers and walls – we service it all!
Our team is educated in providing maintenance and care instructions, as well as using state of the art and dust-free procedures to make your stone look its absolute best!
I am proud to be a memeber of the SRN (Stone Repair Network) and the NSRA (Natural Stone Restoration Alliance). Additionally, we were 1 of only a few companies in the state of Florida to get selected and become an “Accredited Applicator” for Dry Treat sealants. We are A+ Rated by the BBB and have won “The Best of Houzz” award for the past 4 consecutive years.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success is earned and not simply deserved or inherited. One must continue and strive to be the best they can be without taking shortcuts. Learning and understanding your customers’ questions and concerns, being able to answer and make adjustments towards meeting their needs, and lastly, staying true and honest to your craft will show in the quality of outcome from your work.
Success is reflected in personal referrals for new and constant business, a customer’s pride in their home-ownership that is reinforced by your service efforts, and positive online reviews.
